    DirecTV phone support problems

    ADVERTS
I just called the "to contact us call 1-800-531-5000" number on my DirecTV bill and was astounded at the procedures followed by the obviously offshore phone center I was routed to.

The bottom line was that the person I spoke to (and their supervisor I requested look at my bill as well) agreed that a 12 month credit only occured for 1 month and then discontinued for no reason they could find. However, they said they can't actually do anything about it themselves and that it would take 2 weeks for an "escalation" to occur to "finance" before any sort of decision or adjustment can occur. They said that it was plainly impossible for me to speak to anyone in "finance" and resolve the issue more rapidly.

I'm not sure this sort of thing is even legal. I think I have a legal right that DirecTV promptly resolve any obvious over-billing on their part.

Does anyone know if this constitutes fraud and we should all go do a class action law suit?

Furthermore, I found that a $5.99 "Protection Plan" showed up on my bill and while they would cancel it they would not cancel it in a retroactive manner. I never asked for this protection plan and they told me that all new customers get it and that it is free for the first month.

This type of thing also seems fishy to me.

    Is this stuff even legal?

    Thanks-

    "who is we?"

In a class action law suit the affected parties are handled as a group or class so that there are not thousands of separate suits with separate outcomes. "We" would be folks who have been over-billed by DirecTV and where the policies of DirecTV have not allowed for a timely resolution of the over-billing.

If noone else has recently experienced this problem as well there would be no we. I'd be very interested to know that as well.

I just can't believe it is legitimate for them to refuse to address an over-billing situation in a timely manner.
