Multi Room DVR question
ADVERTS
Hi was wondering of someone could clarify Directv's new Beta version of their Multi Room DVR? I have two Directv Receivers, a HD DVR HR22/100 and a HR21, both connected to the same internet network via ethernet. My HD DVR has the latest software version having been updated a dew days ago and has the multi room DVR feature listed in the menu. I also get the TV Apps ok. My HR21 HD Receiver gets TV Apps but it's software was last updated in Oct. and does not have the multi room DVR feature and doesn't connect to the other receiver. I'm thinking that it needs a more recent software - is there a way to update the version or do I just have to wait until it occurs on its own? Both boxes when tested do connect to the internet and the network. Thanks!

you could force the update to the CE version tonight. check the CE subforum at the top of this page for instructions. but basically after 11 easter you reboot your box and hit 02468 on the remote, it will say it is downloading a new version.

My 21s just got it 2 days ago and I'm in SoCal. You will get it soon as it travels west to east.

All HR2X's should not have the 0x03A8 software now. If you don't have that level try a forced download, reboot the HD DVR and at the very 1st screen enter 0 2 4 6 8 to force a download of whatever software is in the stream for download.
Don't know why they're being so slow on the H21/22/23 updates.

Well I'm happy to report that my HR21 non-DVR HD receiver received the software update overnight Tues. into Wed.
After that I opted in for that receiver and gave it a room designation and then tried it and presto I have the multi room DVR system working just fine!!! Have only 2 of my 3 receivers networked. Too bad they're gonna charge for this service! They ought to offer a discounted fee for the DVR service and the Multi Rm DVR service.*****Go Yankees!!!!!*****

I see from the other guy's site that MRV is available in select markets. I have been using it via CE since day one and still use it on NR software. I am not in one of these select markets.
I see that there will be a $3 charge. When will DirecTV start charging me for MRV? I don't need to upgrade my HR21's if I have a home network working great do I?Proud owner of 100 shares of DirecTV

Hmmm interesting. Just got the email for this and called them. According to their rep, the cost is $150 ($100 equipment fee for new filters?!? and $50 service activation fee) up front, then $3/mo. He offered to waive $50 of the equipment fee and after I told him that we pay almost $2k/yr for DTV, that was unacceptable, he then countered w/ $100 credit, but that I'd still have to pay the $50 activation fee.
So what you guys are saying is that there is no extra equipment needed? I'm confused! HELP!

I have all my HR21's connected via home network CAT5e. I set up MRV on each and all work well. Why pay $150 for activation and equipment when you can do it this way? Each room in my house is wired for coax and data. I have SWiM already. I guess $3/mo is worth it. Going back to a nonMRV setup would suck. Free would be better though.
