Unhappy Stuff missing off one receiver after HD Guide download

    ADVERTS 1
I have a whole house system, three HR20-700 and one HR23-700. One of the HR20's is connected to a Western Digital My Book AV DVR Expander 1 TB USB 2.0/eSATA External HD. Everything has been working fine, until yesterday's software update which gave us the new HD Guide. Last night, we realized that quite a few shows that had been recorded on the receiver connected to the external drive were missing from the playlist. Also, the history is incomplete - the shows that are missing from the playlist are no longer in the history. And a number of series we had set that receiver to record are no longer in the to do list or the series manager. I did a reset on that receiver, no good. I called D*, they did a reset from that end...still no good. All they could say was, "We're sorry."

Does this kind of thing happen frequently when software updates are done? Does it actually erase recorded programs, or does it just make them inaccessible? And is there anything I could to to retrieve those recorded shows? I can re-schedule the series manager - pain in the butt, but not a disaster. But I'd really like my recorded programs back!

This does NOT happen often, very slim chance actually.

However, I would give it a day or so and you may find that it does come back.
Try another reset if you haven't lately.

Would there be any benefit to re-starting the external hard drive itself?

    Update

Update: Last night I did another reset on the offending receiver, and also rebooted the external drive. Nothing.

I read somewhere on here a suggestion to try three resets in rapid succession for lost data problems. Is this legit?

    It wouldn't hurt anything.
