Sony SAT B2 receiving problems

My 6 year old receiver works fine unless I want to see what's coming up in the next 2 hours. One hour fine but no more. I,m guessing I need some new firmware but Directv says buy a new receiver. Any suggestions?

Buy a new receiver today the minimum guide information is 3.5 days in advance. The onboard memory six years ago was so small that the addition of programming and local channels is too much for that receiver. You should be able to get a new base receiver for about $50 or a Tivo with two weeks of guide info for less than $100.

Thanks, that makes sense about the memory limit. I don't know how I got along before these forums. there is so much knowledge out there.
