The info is valid, it comes from the DirecTV retailer site.

My question is does this mean no more equipment will be sold or will it be lease or cash and carry.

Now this is a very bad move, even more than than no longer allowing 3rd party branded hardware.

They announced in the 1/05 conference call that they wanted to move to a lease model to reduce customer acquisition costs.

How it will be blended with the current owners isn't known yet, but as of the most recent deals, including MPEG4 hardware, buying was still an option. It is also very unlikely that they would replace an owned box with a leased one. That would be an invitation for a lawsuit.

I would think Robert could enlighten us ASAP and clear it up on the actual details.

And Direc said no increases this year.

It would be nice if Directv released details the only hard information is they are giving dealers 30 day notice that our contracts are expiring There is a 5 page letter but no hard specific facts. Existing customers that own their own equipment will continue to own their equipment but any new added equip. will be leased with a lease fee after 3/1/06.
