Question about replacing a Receiver
ADVERTS 1
I've had DirecTV for over 10 years. I currently have 4 receivers in my home and all told I've probably gone through 10 or 12 receivers since I've been a subscriber. I own all of my receivers as I have had them since before DirecTV went to leasing. Problem is, I just had a receiver go down so I need to replace it. My question is can I buy a receiver off of ebay or some other place and avoid paying the leasing fee on the new one? Or will automatically start incurring a leasing fee once I call and activate it? I don't care to have the receiver repaired even though it is an HD receiver, I'd like to upgrade to one with DVR. Thanks for any input.

There is no LEASE FEE. You pay a $4.99 mirroring fee or a $4.99 lease fee same fee new name. If you are leasing a HDDVR and it fails D* will replace it because they own it, you are ahead of the game.
Bad news is the HR20 is out of stock till probably mid Nov.

Thanks.
So I can just buy a receiver from anywhere I choose, and I won't incur any additional fees that I didn't have before?

If you aren't looking for new, top-shelf equipment; and D* decides not to provide you a free replacement, then I'd consider doing some searching before going the eBay route.
I've done business with this guy before, he's reputable and his prices are reasonable. Check his site for pre-owned D* equipment.
