best way to mirror signal from new hd dvr

I just got a new directv hd dvr hooked up and am wondering what is the best way to send the signal to a second tv. I have used coax in the past, but that is not possible with this receiver. I read in another thread here that all of the
'out' ports are always active on the receiver, so here is my setup and ?:

I plan to go from dtv rec to older hdtv in same room using component cable. That leaves me with s-video or rca ports to connect to a sdtv in another room. I estimate the length of cable needed will be 50'. The picture quality to the sdtv is not paramount, but I do want to use the best possible method, as I will be running the cable thru the attic, and as we all know, attics are not fun.

get an RF modulator hook that up to the receiver and then just run a regular coax line to the tv.

You should be able to find a CH 3/4 modulator for less than $20 and just connect to the cabling you previously used.

Or along that line, use an old VCR you might have laying around - run the A/V out from the D* receiver into the VCR line in, then use the RF out on the VCR to send it on ch 3/4 to the other TV.

if the tv is HD you will have to run component cables however... GL to you though.

You could also run Cat5 and use s-video baluns.....

How far can one run component cables. I see them with the 3vid/2aud RCA connectors up to 100'. Will the signal go that far?

It would be nice if DirecTV2PC would allow real-time viewing.

shouldnt be a problem 100' as long as its a good quality cable, and i second the direcpc idea. I would buy a roll of coax, and get f to rca adapters, or rca compression fittings personally, cheaper for a better quality cable.

Actually, there MAY be another option. I've been playing with a little gizmo that someone passed along to me gratis (no, I'm not affiliated with the company that sells or makes this in any way at all).

In my limited testing, this dude sends both the audio and video a good ways with excellent picture and audio quality. Installation was a few minute job.

I'm playing with it on an FTA receiver and currently have it running in one of my rigs set up at an orphanage in Baja MX - has been in place for about 2 weeks now without a problem. Sending about 30' +/- to an upstairs room. If it sends FTA, should send D or E as well - but I have not tested that.

Might be an alternative to hardwire and crawling through the attic - but I'm still testing so info is FYI only (no endorsement yet, but I'm getting close!). Link below.
