    Either a HR21 or a 23.
Don't see too many 22's around and you can still get HR20's from time to time, particularly if you need one.

That is the small box on the back of your recvr connected to your coax that allows the KU signal to get to your box so you can see your HD from the 99 and 103 sats.

    (Broad Band Converter (?))

You should get all of the satellites and programming... for your locals it depends on your DMA, here is one quick source I found for Alabama.

Suffice it to say that you'll get what you need and nobody but the installer will be able to tell you what that is.

Birmingham is a 3 slot DMA with SD LIL on 101W and HD LIL on 99W.

You'll be looking at the same satellites everyone else who subscribes to DIRECTV US does. They are:

    Spaceway 2 (99W)
    DIRECTV 11 (99W)
    DIRECTV 8 (101W)
    DIRECTV 4S (101W)
    Spaceway 1 (103W)
    DIRECTV 10 (103W)
