Thread: HELP - Recordings Come Out Black with 0:00 Time Recorded

Ive got 2 H24 with Multi-Room Recordings. This has been happening for a while but never figured out what the problem is.

If I go on DirecTV web site to choose a program to record to my DVR, or if I use the Android App to choose a recording it does not record.

The program does show up on my DVR as recorded, but when I play the program it just sits on a black screen with 0:00 time recorded.

My DVR's have a Static IP entered. Should I use Dynamic IP and reserve 2 IP on my router for my DVR ??

This never happens when you use the DVRs to record a program? You say your DVRs have a static IP address entered. You didn't use the same static IP address for both of them did you?

No no, Im not that much of a newb Im using a Class C Network and the last octet of the IP are not the same.

I tried now using Dynamic now instead of Static. Each box did pull an IP Address. However my router has this option - Always broadcast: (compatibility for some DHCP Clients) I checked that option because I feel this stupid Network box D* provided just locks up over time.

I have not done any recording from Web Page or Android but the Ondemand did download but when I try to view from upstairs I get errors.

x.148 and x.149 are my boxes. What are these 224.x.x and 239.x.x ? Is this D* network box? Why cant we just use the Ethernet jack on the back of the box? This network box that D* provides is stupid.

I dont know why it's saying 200.200.200.112 00-21-91-8b-75-e0 dynamic is dnamic because that is a Static IP

I reserved a pool of IP for Dynamic 200.200.200.130 - 200.200.200.149 Nothing special, nothing allowing certain MAC addresses, just plain Dynamic

Had to ask, sorry. What kind of router are you using? I've got twelve HRs on my MRV system and they all have static IPs. Solved a lot of problems I was having when I did that.

You can use the Ethernet port on the back of the HRs. Do you have a DECA system? If you do, you have to use the Ethernet port on the back of the HR. In your opening post you say you have two H24s. Did you mean two HR24s? Could you explain your MRV setup in more detail?

I think you are a bit confused about how programs selected from D*'s website get scheduled to record. That all comes via satellite. I know this for fact since I currently have no internet connection to my D* system and I select recordings all the time from my PC. I even select recordings for the DVR that is at home when we are on the road in our RV.

Second, I readily admit to not being a network authority, but unless you own the 200 block of numbers you are likely encountering some conflict with a valid cloud network id. Everyone I know uses the 192.168.x.x prefix to insure that there will be no conflict with any other address. These identifiers are definitely not assigned to any outside network and essentially guaranteed to be safe for your internal setup. Everyone I know uses this for their internal setup.

Just a thought.

On edit: I just checked out a page that describes networks and Class C is supposed to start with 192. You can find that page

I'll look into just using Ethernet ports on HR24 when I get home from work

That's the very reason I don't use 192.168.x.x for my network because everyone uses it. When I do enable WiFi using a 200.x or 10.x (example) it would be much harder for a Hacker to figure that out.

Class C IP range is 192.0.1.1 to 223.255.254.254 so the 200.x.x.x is in that Class C range.

There should be no ill effect that I could think of and perfectly ok to use any IP address behind my router. I know Ondemand is the Cable Company term but whatever it is for D* Cinema..etc, I know it queue's it up to download the movie. I had set to record and did the testing 10 hours later when I got the error.

I had a feeling I didnt need that darn extra network box. The tech that did my install had his supervisor with him and the friggin Supervisor said never to use the Ethernet on back of box or I would have problems. Schmuck!

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! DO NOT USE THE ETHERNET PORT ON THE 24 SERIES RECEIVERS AND DVRS If YOU ARE USING MRV THROUGH SWiM!!!!! It disables the internal DECA in the receiver.

Reset your receivers to fix your recording issue. Your network has nothing to do with the recording issue assuming you are trying to watch the program locally (on the DVR that recorded it).

The "network box" as you call it is the internet connection kit. It connects to your router and to the SWiM splitter with a power supply. It supplies internet to all the receivers on the DECA network. The direcTV supervisor was right.

That was my thought too, sounded like those addresses were wrong. I'm used to the 192.168 IP addresses that come from the routers. What you get from a cable modem are numbers in the 200s.
