OTA HD is MPEG2 the same as Dish Mpeg2 and just like dish channels the stream is recorded directly so it entirely depends on the channel.
OTA 1080i is full 1920, usually a higher bitrate so will take up more space than dish channels.
From my area in one hour chunks:
1080i HD, no subs 8GB
1080i HD, 1 sub, 6.5 to 7 GB
720p FOX 4.5GB per hour (no subs, the stream is full of null packets)
720p ABC , 1 sub 6GB
480i sub channel 1.6GB

Do you set this up as a timer for the dvd recorder? If so do you still get a recording? When I had my 625 connected to a dvd recorder via s-video, I did not get a picture on the recording, but I did using the composite connection (red, white, yellow). Thought it had something to do with the copyright infringement.
