Yes a simple front panel reset works and of course pulling the AC power cord. It does seem to be software related, since it hangs up after performing the evening prior. I'm wondering if I should just unplug the telephone line. I do have an OTA antenna hooked up, but fail to see how that would interfere on a good design.

DishNetwork only has the simple minded idea to replace this unit with a third 222 unit. They can't seem to make up their mind if I own this unit or if they own it. I say come get it and give a model that works reliabily if it is their unit. Don't buy this model no matter how tempting it is to feed 2 TV's.
Since I unhooked my overrated OTA antenna there hasn't been anymore freeze up problems with the 222. In fact, when I was climbing on top of the roof 10 times a day trying to find the perfect angle I would sometimes unhook the OTA antenna from the receiver and then bam it'd lock up/freeze whatever you call it but I came to the conclusion that that was the problem.

Also, I had trouble any time it rained with the diplexer getting wet so I got the one from my attic (the red Holland diplexer) and replaced it with the red holland one outside and rigged it up where it's going thru a ziplock bag preventing it from getting wet or moisture ands since doing that there hasn't been any more problems with the screen freezing. But then again I really don't know much about this stuff just tinkered around with it to see what works because my tech sure doesn't.

I have my OTA hooked up dual...Two coax, one for the 222 to get the guide data, and one to the tv to actually watch the OTA. My TV's tuner is MUCH better than the one in the 222.

Try running a temporary test cable from the dish to the receiver and check its stability over a couple of days. I just did a service call where the original install incorporated the use of some store bought wire and a gold barrel wall plate. That was the cause of their problem with intermittent issues including having to run chronic check switch tests.

Mine was freezing daily. The latest 3.05 software is better. It only freezes up every other day now!

Every couple of days my 222 "acts up".

In the morning, I get up watch the local news and within 2-5 minutes the channel changes on it's own to Ch 101. This doesn't bother me that much, I just change the channel back. (But this happens about every other day.)

When I finish watching TV, I turn off the TV & 222 and continue my morning, with my family waking up about 45 minutes later and ready to watch TV. This is when problem 2 starts: Turn on the TV, press 'Select' to power on the 222 and nothing, it's locked up & I have to reboot.

I have an OTA antenna hooked up to the 222 and I am thinking about removing it for a few days to see if this might be the cause of the problems.

So far my opinion of the 222 is about the same as me believing that Dish is the "Leader in HD".

I have this same problem on my VIP222 TV2 changing to Ch. 101. Most mornings the channel changes to Ch. 101 around 5:12-5:13am CT. Why then I do not know.

    TV1 is uneffected.

I have a problem that my TV2 cannot autotune for a reminder with the VIP222. When I set up from the TV2 remote it puts the autotune on TV1. I spoke wth Tech Support and apparently it is an "issue" that the engineering department is working on. This plays havoc with my tv tuner on my computer when I cannot autotune the channel to what I want.

And as everyone else says, my receiver will freeze on occasion. Had is replaced and it does not do it as much nut still does once in a while
