HDMI may be the problem, like it was for me between my LG HDTV and a Samsung DVD/sound system. Hooked up using component cables for the video and optical for the audio and all is well. I think it was just a handshake thing between the source and load, HDMI being a computer interlink and all. Even $$$ best quality HDMI cables, differant cable lengths or routing away from everything didn't help.

Sound Problems on 622/722 Receivers
Same problem here. I have both a 622, on component cables and a 722 on HDMI cables and they are both having this sound problem on the local San Francisco HD feeds(ABC, CBS, FOX). Problem not there when you go OTA.

It's not a handshake problem with me. I have a 622 connected to my plasma by a HDMI 1.1. I'm using a toslink from my 622 to my pre/pro. I've had this set up for almost 2 years without a problem until it started dropping the audio for a second or so a few weeks ago. Today it happeded twice in the first quarter of the HD NBC Stanford Notre Dame game. I switched to the HD broadcast on ABC of the Cal game and so far it's fine . I'm pretty sure it happens on all the networks but it may be more frequent on NBC. I'm going to start keeping track.

I'm having the same issue. Optical sound drops. If I leave the sound up on my tv (connected via RCA), then I can hear it, just the optical drops.
There is another thread discussing the same issue. I can't post a link, but here is a tinyurl : tinyurl.com/3nv8qu

I kept track of the audio drops during the USC game on ABC HD. 13 including one during a commercial. That's after none during the Cal game on ABC earlier, but at least three during the early part of the Notre Dame game on NBC HD. This doesn't appear to be network specific and I can't believe Dish isn't aware of the problem by now.

I get the sound blips too, but only when I record HD shows from my local ABC station...via Dish, not OTA. It was so bad last week during the recording of Boston Legal that I though my wife was going to scream. Dish needs to address this issue, or my wife will insist we move back to Directv when our contract is up. We NEVER had this issue with them!

Got through the (pathetic) Chargers game today on CBS without an audio drop. But last night we heard four drops on HGTV HD so in our case at least it not just the networks

I don't know about mid-program, but the audio feed isn't always Dolby when going from a program to a commercial and will usually blip for a second as your amplifier adjusts to the source content (ie. 5.1 to 2.0/2.1)

I've had an issue with audio dropouts on my recordings from my local channels. Here is the response from dishquality:
Thank you for your information! We are aware of the issue. Our Software Team for the 622/722 receivers is currently looking into it. To investigate this issue, our Software Engineering team is currently dissecting one of the boxes that we have retrieved from a customer. We are also in the process of retrieving another box for that same team. Hopefully, they will find a resolution soon. The fix will most likely come in the form of a software download. We will keep looking into the issue and trying to get it resolved. It will be a matter of getting the problem identified and then corrected. Unfortunately, sometimes these things take awhile and then other times it is a matter of a few minutes.
We appreciate the time DISH Network customers take to email their audio/video quality concerns. Thank you for your patience, information, and for being a valued customer.
