I would have to say that having just switched, I have found the Directv to be far better of a company. They were much more educated, helpful, organized over the phone, they provided real humans to follow up through the install process and calling to make sure all went smooth, the installation was much cleaner with wiring nicely wire tied and run neatly (they even got rid of old cable and wires that were not needed on the roof to make the roof wiring clean), and the clarity is slightly better. I've used both DVR's and they are not that different to me?

To clear things up as other posted savings and others said they would not; for me I have just one TV, which is a 7 foot front projection HD so I only need one HD DVR, had all the normal channels with full HD package, locals, hbo, cinemax, stars, etc. and was paying $127 or $1524 per year with dish networks. We just switched and Directv is charging us $736 for the first year then $1308 for year two. So maybe if you need a lot of recievers it might not save you? but I can say for us with just one DH DVR the savings are enough for me to get the next generation Panasonic blu ray player! I still thnk dish is a company I do not trust and am not been that happy with their customer service.

The key thing for us was Voom HD. Right now on specs their content is close with Directv having an advantage on # of channels in HD. Comparing the two I like Directv better so far but whomever has Voom HD we'd probably switch.
So Directv is giving you a free HD dvr and all channels including premiums (not pay-perview) for $61.33 a month for a year?

When I go to Directv's site and select what you are getting, I get $81.99 plus $9.99 or $14.98 for HD per month. Then after the first year it goes to $104.99 plus 9.99 or 14.98.

If I go to Dish's site the everything pack is 94.98 HD is either $10 or $20 plus $5 for locals. For new HD customers they receive $ 119.97 in credits.

SO why were you paying $127 a month when it should be 119.98?

New customer Directv 2603.28 for 2 years
new customer Dish 2759.55 for 2 years

    Savings - $156.27
But Dish gives you 2 rooms
2 rooms for Directv 2723.28 plus the cost of a 2nd sd dvr (?)

So a savings of $36.27 plus the cost of a 2nd sd dvr

I pay $127 too (with only one DVR active), for everything pack, premiums, DVR, everything except extras like sports or PPV.

DirecTV has also made it very clear that they will GIVE me an HD DVR FREE (I passed the credit check and was once a loyal DirecTV customer, before Dish had Voom).

I'm also not so sure why everyone loves the 2 room receiver. It's OK if your second TV is a 4:3 SD monitor. I have 2 widescreen HDTVs and the second output looks crappy and will not conform to a 16:9 screen. I can use the HDMI on 1 and the component on the 2nd, but then I cannot watch TV in the bedroom while someone else watches TV in the living room. I'm constantly switching the bedroom TV's inputs from Coaxial to HDMI depending on whether someone is watching TV in the living room. The constant switching is hardly simple and when I'm using the coaxial, the HD is cropped even thought it's a 16:9 screen.

Nice new feature, two room receivers; but I need 2 HD outputs or 2 HD DVRs.

NOTE: I'll go check my bill for you.

I think that is around the same price for Direct also.

If the savings were as big as Cantonsurroundsound says I would probably switch, but I think his math is off somewhere. Dish is a better value for me.

Why not drop the DHP and add it back if you need it? I have seen posts here where you can add it if you have an issue then drop it after the issue is resolved.
