I'm kinda curious if there will be SD overlap for HD channels that are a HD mirror. For instance, do we really need TLC SD on Eastern Arc since TLC HD is the same damned thing?

Absolutely not, since any ViP MPEG-4 receiver will downconvert it to SD on the S-video, composite, and RF outputs.

Charlie says that today we have 81 national HD channels and by the end of the year they will have more the 100 national HD channels.

This is such a joke........
The word "National" would indicate anyone in the Nation would be able to view these channels....
I get 1 RSN.....
Why not just add up all the HD Locals and tell me Dish has 287 or whatever it is National HD channels.....

The method of counting "81 national HD channels" was started by DirecTV, not Dish Network.

Before they launched their new satellites that provided most of their HD channels, DirecTV said - at the beginning of 2007 - that they would have "100 National HD Channels by the End of 2007". But then DirecTV said that they could include sports packages and RSNs in that total.

So, Dish Network's marketing speak has to use the same method of counting as DirecTV.

In reality, the number of channels does not mean anything - it only matter if the HD program you want to watch is being carried. If an HD channel is added that never has a program you want to see, then it doesn't help you.

We do not have ability to change any programming, give free programming, give credits, etc.

Charlie has a long way to go to get to 100 channels this year as far as I am concerned. I have the HD only pak and only get 45 channels, plus HBO, 5 Max, Cmax, starz, and Showtime, which makes 50. He needs another 50 to get to 100. How does he come up with 81 National HD Channels, Scott.

He was 15 channels closer to 100 before he turned off VOOM.

I can answer that right now... due to DRM you won't see an ATSC output.

Did they state that, or is it speculation. I know that's the general consensus as to why we haven't had it already, but do the specs show exactly what kind of tuner?

Big Ten Network is national. I have it on the sports pack and I am not in a Big Ten state.

5 PPV are included in my count, but Big Ten Net is not in my package. I don't get it, so it is not National.


DISH Network -- Dish HD

I guess I'm kind of disappointed here that the 722 customers will probably need a new box in order to have Sling built in or support two-way remotes.

You'd think the hardware platform wouldn't be that much different and we could have a software upgrade to enable some of this stuff.

Who knows, maybe they will offer a software upgrade but I think history suggests I'll be waiting for my 18 month to end so I can upgrade again.

I have a feeling that at some point, when we start putting in these new 722s, my existing units will suddenly become "defective", and I'll be forced to replace them.

The problem is how big of a pain in the *** the customer can be if such a thing isn't marketed carefully. Heck, even if it is marketed carefully then I'm sure the customer would still find some way to make the installer's life hell.

Of course they will! They already do. Now, it's a given if the AT&T. call center starts pushing these. They already screw up at least half the work orders I get.
