They are probably not turning on SciFi and USA HD for AK/HI because they might move them to 129/61.5, or at least have the option of moving them. Until a 129 satellite that has a spot for AK/HI gets up it will probably stay that way unfortunately.

So they "know to call you first" about programming questions, even though you are powerless in this respect. In other words, you tell them to waste their time with you in the hopes of making another buck off people too incompetent or lazy to drill a few holes in the wall.

If a customer DID call you to complain about VOOM, do you just tell them they're "worthless"? Because I can get a CSR to do that for free.

That would be the only logical reason but they won't even answer my e-mails or tell anyone a reason. It would be better if they took them off of our guide altogether rather than leave them on there in red and telling us to call to get them added. Very frustrating to say the least.

If that is actually their rationale, then they should not have added them to the guide in red with the call to subscribe screen.

I don't think they have the power to stop that since the Dish box just checks and sees what's 'on the sats'. They'd have to block it for everyone.

That's the impression I'm under anyway.

DirectTV lies does not justify Dish's also telling lies. A lie is a lie. Now you make them sound like Hillary Clinton and Obama.

RSN's are not Nationals and that is the truth, whether you think it is whining or not.

First, why bring a political reference into this to begin with?

And second, RSNs are national. If you subscribe to the sports pack you get all of them, ergo they are available nationally.

The biggest problem I have with including them in the HD count is that most are only HD when there is a professional sporting event and those tend to be blacked out (unless you also have something like center ice, NBA league pass, or MLB EI). Since Dish doesn't offer MLB EI and I heard that a lot of their center ice games were SD instead of HD, then I would argue that it's a bit disingenuous to count RSNs as national HD. Not because of the national tag, but because of the HD tag. then again, a lot of the national HD channels don't show much HD at all, so I guess RSNs aren't really any different...
**Dish: One step forward, a half dozen steps back...

The only purpose of the "number of National HD channels" count is marketing and advertising.

If DirecTV uses a specific method of counting and says "We have 100" and Dish uses your method and says "We have 50", then Joe Sixpack is going to think DirecTV have lots more even if the difference is only the method of counting.

A good example is Hard Disk Drives. A quote "500 gb" drive, when it is all formatted has 465gb of usable space (which J6P constantly complains about in customer reviews of hard drives).

So, if Western Digital called it a "500gb" drive and Segate called theres a "465gb" drive, then J6P would always buy the Western Digital drive "because it has more space".

So, advertisers have to use the same method of measurement.

In reality, it only matters if they have the channel you want. For example, right now DirecTV has more national HD channels - but if your favorite channel is Travel Channel, and you really want it in HD - then Dish is better for you. And, same applies for channels on D* and not on E*.

I hope you're right about that.

Is this something you've heard through unnamed sources or has Dish talked about this.
