It is likely that the 1080p VOD movies that Dish is putting out are higher bandwidth than the current 1080i programming.
Even if your television performed perfect 3:2 reverse pulldown on a 1080i source, the higher bandwidth 1080p will look better.
Dish has to buffer the movies on your harddrive because these movies are higher bandwidth than any of the current 1080i HD PPV channels. Otherwise, Dish could get away with performing 3:2 reverse pulldown on any of their current 1080i HD channels and calling it "1080p".

Sorry if this has been asked. Have not seen it though.
How much room will I need on my hard drive to get a 1080p movie to download??
If my hardrive is almost full or full, will I get a message that tells me "need more hard drive storage room" or something like that. Does anyone know how many hours are needed on the hard dirve to download??

Your dvr hard drive is partitioned - You get access to MOST of it but not all. Dish reserves the other partition for downloads they put there. It has no effect on the space you use for recordings.
Next time you press the dvr button scroll down and select the tv entertainment selection. All those shows are in the reserved partition. Dish will download several 1080p movies to this partition and then charge you if you want to watch them.

Thanks. I was hoping it was that way but was not sure. When I had two 622 I remember that one of the 622 ( which I did not have much recorded ) had a few tv shows on the entertainment section and the other did not. I was thinking it was because I did not have enough room on the hard drive. It probably had more to do with the roll out of the programs in the entertainment section.

Curious, I see channels 501, there are about 8 of them but none of them lists "I am Legend" as a selection.
My TV is 1080p and when I select another movie, I don't get the 1080p option, just the standard "Do you want to rent this movie?" kind of message.
