During the chat, they specifically recommended two brands of external hard drives: Seagate and Western Digital. They showed a picture of a Western Digital EHD branded as "My DVR" (I think), with the Dish logo.

I have two of the Seagate drives at home and I love 'em. They have been rock solid, and come with a 5 year warranty (compared to 1 year or even 90 days).

As for the complaint about Seagate drives power-savings modes, that's easy to fix: Before you hook the drive up to your Dish receiver, hook it up to a PC and run the Seagate software to disable power savings. (While you're at it, you can turn off the light too.) Or, wait for the Dish fix expected in the next few weeks.

    -- $470 without OTA Module

It will be interesting to see what the price is folks really end up paying for it.
MSRP for a HR21/22/23 that you do not own but have to return when you are done with it (lease)?

$29 to lease the module or to own it? Why would you want to own a module in a leased receiver? If it is a lease upgrade fee then I bet the cost to own it would be more.

Take forever to scroll back down to "S"
I would really like to see this feature.

Cost to buy was $29 more when buying both receiver and module. I have no idea if there will be a difference in lease fees. I would guess no difference in lease fee with or without.

No mention of this. Folders for the EHD and a fix for some externals not waking up were mentioned.

Before I run out and buy an EHD, would like opinions on compatible drives. Looking for one that is both quiet and has large capacity.

It does but I sure hope that TIVO doesn't have some vaguely worded patent related to this 'technology'. The only thing about the TIVO technology was that very few shows used it so it rarely ever actually was a functioning 'feature.'

I've read this whole thread. Did we ever say FOR SURE that there will be no monthly DVR fee if we convert the 211 to a DVR. I know there will be the one time 40 dollar fee, but what about the 5.98 monthly fee?

For sure you'll see it in your bill after activation.
