Didn't something like this statement get passed around to Dish installers a year or so back?? As I recall installers were instructed to hook up with hdmi instead of component. Everyone was worried then about losing or downrez component connection. Whatever happened to that memo to the installers??

The day they roll this out to the premium channels is the day I'll switch to DirecTV, being that Dish's HDMI port is so flimsy. Mine doesn't work now and I hesistate to get another 622, which is all they offered me. I'm not going to keep replacing receivers.

"Due to the DRM requirements that movie studios have mandated, a small number of customers with older HDTVs will not be able to watch movies with their current set up. This type of copy protection is called HDCP (High Bandwidth Copy Protection)."
    Should read....

"Due to the DRM requirements that movie studios have mandated, a LARGE number of customers with VIP 622's will not be able to watch movies with their current set up. This type of copy protection is called HDCP (High Bandwidth Copy Protection) which requires a functioning/reliable HDMI port that Dish still doesn't know how to build."

I guess I got lucky, my 622 HDMI port has worked fine for years.

What a Joke! Can't just leave stuff the way it is.
Just another reason not to order a PPV.

Ya, I remember that too. And don't ever recall seeing a single post complaining that their component output was downrezzed. Maybe because NO ONE watches ppv. But sure seems like empty threats year after year.

It sounds like some older HDMI/DVI displays are not DRM compliant and they must use component to view the programming (probably at 480p).

Well, I don't do PPV or that other nonsense, but my Sony D50Q should be OK with the HD Fury accepting HDMI from my 211 and feeding component to the projector.
Surprised they haven't blacklisted that HDMI key yet for the Fury.

Aren't most 622's getting replaced with 722's or 722k's these days? I had my 722 replaced because of a hard drive failure and I got a 722k. I even got a free OTA module when I complained that I was loosing the OTA capability I was currently using on the 722.

I'm pretty sure the 508 does not do 8PSK. And they aren't moving on eBay. So I guess I have a doorstop in the making. I doubt I'd pay an extra fee for a satellite receiver where it's currently located. I can get by with my two ViP 722 DVRs. Time to copy the programs I want off it, and wedge it into that Closet of Antique Electronics.
