No, but Upgrading is possible, from Free up to $125 for a 722k.
Most Defective 622's are replaced with refurbished 622's.
New customers are giving 722's or 722k's.
    I had to swap a 612 and a 301 to get a 722k upgrade for free.
I doubt they will take a 622 and swap it for a 722 and call it even. $50 isn't out of the question though.

I suppose I got lucky. Maybe because it was replaced on a service call, not a replacment shipped by Dish.

Consensus around here is much more dire than I understand from Scott's OP. The way I read it, those using a digital connection that cannot handle DHCP will not be able to view certain HD programs. The solution (according to the Dish memo) is to switch to component.

If the component outputs are also going to be switched to 480p at best, then the Dish memo "solution" is no solution at all! How did we get from "HDCP required on a digital cable" to "no HD for older HDTVs" at all?

I don't think the other shoe has dropped. At least not yet!

Your local retailer might not have had anymore 622's. So you most likly did get lucky.

The Hauppauge uses component input though so unless E* clamps the component resolution, they will still record as always since there is no HDCP on component.

    OT remarks on 8PSK receivers

That is correct from my 501 experience. Also the 301 can't do 8PSK unless there are some variants I don't know about. How many 301's are out there?

My formerly or currently owned SD receivers tested with 8PSK transponders:

    Works: 311, 625
    No way: 4900, 301, 111, 501

The content owners will probably require Dish to auto switch to 480p if no HDCP is present on the HDMI. They will probably have to turn off the component outputs in the protected mode.

Of course there probably is a large set of people using the HD receivers on HD sets with Svideo or composit...

Most people probably will never know if anything changes unless they put a pop up saying that it was downresed. Most have trouble seeing the difference between 480p and 1080i unless they are looking for it.

The rule is simple - if inside of a receiver you see BCM4500 close to sat tuner(s), then it is support 8PSK modulation scheme.

That is at least partly due to DISH transmitting such a poor quality 1080i signal much of the time.
