301 in Ohio?
ADVERTS 1
a friend of mine from Ohio called dish to see if he could add a 301 to his account. he has 2 dual tuner receivers now. they said it wouldn't work.is it because the 301 doesn't work in Ohio or would it be because he would need a dp 44 switch or something of that nature to handle the 3rd receiver

301's work just fine here. More than likely his current dish's outputs are maxed out at 2 receivers.

Maybe it has something to do with 8PSK locals market?

there are only a couple markets where 8PSK is used for locals...none in Ohio
If he is on a Eastern Arc they wont add the 301 because it isnt MPEG4. You can only have MPEG4 receivers on an EA setupWinegard 76cm dish, SG2100 motor, Sadoun dual KU LNB..... Directv Slimline SWM 3 LNB.... GeoSatPro 36" dish with Sadoun dual KU LNB... Coolsat 5000 on motorized.... Manhattan RS1933....Directv HR34 (yes the 5 tuner monster) GeoSatPro 200 to aim dishes.... few receivers not set up yet
Two 6 foot Fortec dish with GeoSatPro dual C-Band LNB "ghetto moved" to various C-Band satellites

I think Cincinatti or Dayton is on the 129 Satellite.
You friend could have all MPEG4 equipment on their account which would prevent the 301 from getting activated.

Cincy HD is on 77 whereas SD locals are on 110

Two issues. 1 - What switch/lnbs does he already have? 2 - How long ago did he set up service?
New installs are all set for MPEG-4 only. So the system might not allow them to add it.

i don't think he has any switches.dish pro twin lnb with one cable comming from 110 and 119 into his two dual tuner receivers.his system is about 4 years old. would need a switch ,44 or something in order to get the 3 rd receiver hooked up.not enough outputs?

If 2 dual-tuner receivers are connected, it's probably a DP Plus Twin. Some options to price out:
1) replace the DPP Twin with a DP Twin, add a DPP33
2) add a DPP44 (some installers recommend not using a DPP Twin here)
3) for SD receivers, replace the dish with a Dish 1000.2
4) for HD receivers, replace the dish with a Dish 1000.4Charles

"dual" is NOT the same as "Twin" - here's why
