what do I need to make this happen?

I have a dish 500 sat mounted and pointed from when I had service a while back. I want to resume my service, but without a contract, so I am looking at getting a VIP 612 DVR off Ebay. I want that receiver for a variety of reasons.
Will my sat be enough for that receiver? If not, what do I need to get in order to make it work? For the record, I DO NOT need access to HD Locals thru the sat. In fact, my service will have the local channels option deleted (DISH can't figure out how to put me in the right market for locals).
I've read a lot on here, but I don't really know the differences between a lot of the different LNB's I've seen referenced, etc....

I assume the D500 you have has a Twin LNB for 110 and 119. If you want HD service, you'll either need a second D500 for a third sat position (either 61.5W or 129W) or either replace the D500 with a 1000.2 (western arc) or 1000.4 (eastern arc). If the D500 has a DPP Twin LNB only a single cable is required from the LNB to the receiver if you use a separator with the 612. Also the second D500 can be connected to the first's LNB IN port negating the need for additional switches. You can likely get a 622 or better for nothing from E* with a 24 month commitment. Unless you're planning to cancel service within the first year, you'll be dollars ahead by making the commitment to E* since all the antenna hardware and installation will be provided.

I don't know why Dish does not know what your locals are...must have gotten a dense CSR. You're in western arc, so you would want a 1000.2 for a one dish solution.

It does have a twin. It says DishPro on the back of it. Right now I don't have an HD TV, so that isn't as big a concern, but it's nice to have the option to add it later when we get a new TV. I come across D500 systems regularly, so adding another dish for the HD wouldn't be a problem. I had a dual tuner receiver with a separator before, so I only have one cable coming from the dish into the house, so I think I can put the separator on the 612 and be ok.
So if I want SD with the DVR for now, the setup I have should work with the 612 (or 622)? Then to get HD later I'll need another dish? What is the diff, if any, between 61.5 and 129W?

On a related note,
I'm not planning to cancel, really, just don't want any new commitments right now, especially not for 2 years.
I also do not want them sending installers to my house. Last time they put a mount on the side of my house, even tho I TOLD them trees would be in the way. That pole is still there. Then I asked them to be careful of my new carpet. One of the guys took his shoes off when he came in. The other one just tromped mud in, then sat on my mantle and cleaned the mud off his boots onto my carpet. Then they told me I would have to put up a pole 25feet above my roof or cut down trees in order to get service.
When I called E* to complain, they didn't care. I ended up having to have my carpet cleaned, and had a local guy come put up my dish, on the roof, WITHOUT a pole, and it worked fine. I said then I would never have another E* installer at my house.
Sorry for the rant, but that's the reasoning behind doing it myself without a commitment....

I live in eastern Henderson county, about 10 miles west of Tyler. Dish insists on giving me Dallas locals. It is over 100 miles from my house to Dallas, but they tell me I am in the Dallas market, and I can't get Tyler locals. However, if I start service, then do an online change of address to a Tyler addy, my locals suddenly change to Tyler.....go figure......
Anyways, I have an HD off-air antenna for locals.....

That is know as "moving" it is done for your reason and others sometime.

Good to go. 129W and 61.5W have identical national HD programming. They differ only in the locals and RSNs carried. 129W is part of the western service arc consisting of 110/119/129 while 61.5W is part of the eastern service arc consisting of 61.5/72.7/77. Both arcs carry the same national programming, although the eastern arc is mpeg4 only and VIP Series receivers are required. The western arc has both mpeg4 and mpeg2 encoding but will move to all mpeg4 encoding in the future. Some subscribers have service from satellites from both arcs because they were existing subs before the eastern arc was created and subsequently their HD locals were placed on an eastern arc satellite. New subscribers usually get just a single dish install for either the western (1000.2) or eastern (1000.4) arc.

I was reading in another thread that I can lease equipment and get it all, plus install, for $99 activation with no contract....If that is the case I might go with that, so long as I can get installation from my local retailer, not the clowns that came from Dallas last time, and so long as they will leave my existing equipment alone, because I will use it for FTA if I don't need it for dish service. There are some good freebie channels out there, I've learned....

The Twin has to have the dpPLUS logo to use the Separator.

Henderson County is in the SE corner of the Dallas market, adjacent to the Tyler market. Dish is offering you the "right" locals. Thank our friends at Nielsen and the NAB.

Henderson County is in the Tyler designated market area.
You'll need a service address in one of the following counties...
Franklin, Camp, Upshur, Wood, Smith, Gregg, Rusk, Nagadoches, Cherokee, Houston, Trinity, Angeline, San Augustus or Sabine.

Yes to the person not familiar with these market areas and boundaries it appears stupid to have locals from such a distance when another city is much closer. But the lines have to be drawn somewhere.
