Am I confused. I've read the two linked articles three times. One says Charlie Stepped down from "SATS", the other says Charlie Stepped down from Dish Network and still controls "SATS". They really should have names these differently. Which has Dugan and which has Ergen ?
I'm not sure how to take this.... But here's what the stockholders think...
DISH: -2.24 (-10.11%)
SATS: +0.16 (+0.79%)
PS: It's this line in the 2nd link that's confusing me:
Ergen remains chairman and controlling shareholder of Douglas County-based EchoStar (NASDAQ: SATS), which makes TV set-top boxes and manages satellite uplink technology for other companies.

He is no longer the CEO of SATS, still chairman of SATS, nothing changed with respect to Dishnetwork, he is still the CEO and everything else.
DISH dropped $2 to reflect the lost opportunity for the $2 special dividend from today forward. Yesterday was the last day to own DISH and get that $2 dividend.

First - a 10% dividend, wow, that is unusual.
Second - at least from the reponse of the shareholders, this is non-news.
Sounds like they are just changing the leadership structure a bit. I think Charlie will still have a key leading role in both companies?

Maybe Charlie wants to enjoy his aging self some and some of that money he has made.
