Wanting to return to Dish - 722 questions

    ADVERTS 1
We had Dish probably about 5 years ago when we lived in Michigan and really enjoyed it. We had a 622 for me and a 625 for my wife. The only thing keeping me from getting the wife's approval to move back is that she really loves the U-Verse DVR which allows watching shows from the one dvr on either TV.

We have two tv locations and she does not care about HD so I was wondering if I could get two 722's and use the second tuner on each in the opposite room? This would allow her to watch content off either DVR in either location. Both spots have HD tvs and she require recording at least from 3 sat tuners at one time.

It would be awesome if Dish allowed you to connect two dvrs and share content between the two. Maybe in the future.

Thoughts, opinions, ideas? This 1HD/3SD from U-Verse is killing me and our 1 year promos are expiring so Dish is actually much cheaper (even after the one year entry promo expires).

    Thanks in advance,
    Scooby2

Do what I did. Feed the TV next to the 722 (each in single mode) by component cables and the far TV by HDMI, one from each 722 into each TV...cris-cross like. It works just fine with 50' of HDMI cable.

I did not think of that. Excellent idea!

There's one problem with the idea. Dish doesn't currently have a receiver that will allow recording off 3 sat tuners at once. There's the 722k that with the optional OTA module will do 2 sat tuners and 2 OTA tuners but there's currently not an option for 3 sat tuners off one box. The suggestion above may work out ok. The other option is to ask dish for a pair of HD DVRs. They may initially try and install a pair of 612 initially but tell them that you want PIP on both TVs for which the 722 is the only option. The best way to go of course is to find a reputable retailer in your area that's willing to work with you.

    2 dvr's

If you want 2 DVR's you could go w/ a 722k & a 612. Then you could have best of both. Then set up dish comm between the 2. Maybe even use a slingbox HD and ext HDD's then you can move whatever you want to ext HDD's and move it back and forth between the DVR's.

The 922 which hopefully will be out soon will allow you to send an HD stream to another TV via a LAN connection. If you want service right now you will have to settle for the 722.

Wow, the 922 sounds impressive. Any solid guesses of when it will be out or is it still just speculation? I would hate to order two 722's and have the 922 come out. Looking at the beta forum, it seems to have been in beta for almost 6 months now.

They have quite a few of them out in test now. It is hard to say when they will have the bugs worked out. I personally think they would want to start shipping by CES so they have something good to talk about, since they have shown it 2x at CES and it would be embarrassing if they did not have it shipping by now.

They should just pull a u-verse and offer the 922 with what they have ready and bring the other features along as they become stable. Christmas is a great time for buying things, upgrading, etc.
