    Cancellation question

    ADVERTS 1
Hi, after 10 years with Dish, I decided to give U-Verse a try. It was a really hard decision since overall I've been very happy with Dish. The only sticking point I had was the signal going out everytime a severe thunderstorm came through our area (when I needed information the most), but I guess that's the nature of the beast. No complaints on the pricing, dvr's (loved the dual ones) and enjoyed reading this forum and the people on it (that I'll miss).

Anyway, I'm giving U-Verse a 6 month trial run and may come back to Dish if we encounter major issues.

I thought I just had to return the boxes but the instructions inform me that I have to return the LNBF (not sure what that stands for) and the "Switch" (not sure if I have one or where it's at).

The actual dish is on my roof 2.5 stories up and I don't have a ladder that long. If I don't return those, will I really be charged $149? I didn't know that was part of the deal (need to pay more attention to the fineprint!)

    Thanks!
    Larry

Call and tell them you can not safely reach the dish, they will probably tell you to forget it. Have you officially canceled Dish? If not, DON'T. About 9 out of every 10 satellite people I've seen have HATED Uverse. Fortunately, most had kept Dish and were back in the saddle when they canceled. Now, if you don't have or don't intend to get HD, you MIGHT be happy. See this thread:

Thanks KAB for the quick response. I just did a search on cacellation and found a thread from the summer (I think you responded the same on that one).

Much appreciated. I would like to keep the dish intact in case I do come back.
Yes, I did officially cancel though they were going to give me something like $20 off a month for a year (very tempting!). I kept Dish live for a couple weeks to do some comparison testing (plus my wife had two months of Days of Our Lives she had to watch before cancelling! :-)

I think the HD picture is better with Dish but the SD is reaaly great with UVerse. I miss being able to fast forward frame by frame for sports replays but they say that feature may be in the next upgrade. Really miss the caller ID function but nice not having to run a phone line to the box anymore. Also really nice not to be under any contract and to be able to watch dvr on any TV and having two HD feeds. Hate having to have a box for every TV though. Miss the DISH pass functionality too. Though I have to say it's really fast to scroll through the channels, hardly any latency at all.

Just wish the U-Verse forum was a cool as this one and the people on it!

Hope everyone has a great Christmas/holiday and may see you down the road again.

Thanks hyperguy. They did ask me that but really wasn't sure what all that entailed. I figured if I rejoin I would like to get newer receivers. My 622 has been a workhorse for many years...just figured it would go out eventually...sooner or later.
