    Foreign signal looking for help!

    ADVERTS 1
I’m an American living in Mexico and had Dish Network for eight years. No, I wasn’t hacking the signal. I’d get on the Dish internet site and paid for my programming. I have no interest in pirating. When I bought that system, the guy gave me an address in Texas somewhere. I don't know if it was a real address or not but it worked.
After eight years, I tried to make my usual purchase but never got it. After a few calls to Dish, they explained my equipment was too old and that they would upgrade me for free. I explained I was located in Mexico and they said that was a no go. Although they tried to help me, they simply can’t sell their signal outside of the country.
Shortly after, I moved way down south to Chile (not many satellite dishes there) and after a couple of years moved back to Mexico.
As soon as I returned, I bought a B11 or 811 Dish HDTV and a couple of antennas. It was setup for me and tested with a smartcard the tech had and worked perfectly. I was then offered a pirate card for it… sorry, I’ll pass. So now I have all this equipment, hooked up to a terrific HDTV Screen and can’t watch TV.
I love living in Mexico but hate the local TV. I either watch American TV or none at all. Is there anything I can do? All I want is a legal card that I can buy monthly programming for; I’m not interested in hacks or systems, just a legal card.
I don’t have an address in the USA.

I hate to break it to you but the 811 is an obsolete receiver (MPEG2 HD). About all it is good for is OTA HD and MPEG2 SD reception.

All Dish HD is now MPEG4 so you 'll need a ViP class receiver, probably a 211, with the new purple NAGRA-3 card.
    Hitachi 57F59; Sony VHP-D50Q - 7' diag on wall
    DishNetwork ViP722k; DishNetwork ViP211; DishNetwork ViP211K; DishNetwork 301; 2 - TiVo Series 2's; Accurian 6000; Samsung SIR-T351; Panasonic Showstopper 2000; ATI HDTV Wonder; Hauppauge HD PVR;
Sony PS3; Toshiba HD-A3 HDDVD; SlingBox AV
    Dish 1000 on 110,119&129; Dish 500 on 61.5
    RS U75-R; Funke PSP.1922

What Jim5506 said is true. You will have to get one of the VIP series of receivers to be able to get any programming now. I would suggest a 722k w/ the OTA module ( if you get digital OTA where you live). If you don't need the OTA get it w/o the module.

Thank you very much for your replies. I guess I'll just have to get rid of it then.

I'll be in Texas next month and was thinking about buying a new receiver but a friend mentioned I won't be able to buy one while I'm there, since a valid USA address is required and he thinks that you can't just buy it in the store and take it home. He said Dish personal must install the equipment. Is this correct?

Ebay is really your best bet. Buy it there have it shipped to your friends house then take it home. If you are paying full monthly fee it isn't exactly legal but they are still getting paid for it. What size dishes do you have to use to get enuff signal down there? As far as getting local channels you are going to need to choose a very S TX. city to get them due to the spotbeams they are using I guess. Since I don't know where you live I'm guessing on that one.

    I have a 2.4 meter dish and a smaller 80 centimeter dish.
I'm located close to Mexico City and can pull in a decent signal with those.

Thanks very much for the good advice and the welcome.

Which sats are the dishes pointed at? Do you have two sats on one of the dishes?

Sorry. I don't know he names of the Sats but each antena is pointed to one Sat only.

I was told they are the most useful sats.

What receivers (and lnb if needed) should I be looking for on Ebay?

They sometime have good deals. Then you can have it shipped to a friends place in TX. Our sponsors might not be able to do the same without it being a problem for them. I can't say for sure on that though. Claude or some of the ohter dealers would have to answer that for you. For HD service you really houls have 3 dishes or the larger one maybe could handle 2 of the 3. It is possible to buy a bracket that will handle more than 1 LNB. We do that over on the FTA site here at sat guys. An example could be to prime focus the 129 sat and then with the extra LNB bracket bounce 119 off it also. Then maybe the .8 meter dish for 110. I'm just guessing that that would be enough gain for 110.
