77 satellite signal strengths ??

My installer didn't use the struts either. But I noticed another 1000.4 in my neighborhood. They have the struts. Called Dish and asked to get a tech out here to install them, since the quick install guide clearly states to use them.

3. Mount the mast, making sure it is absolutely vertical (page 3, steps 2 and 3). Attach struts to the mast, using the instructions that came with your struts.



They tried to charge me another $15 I told them not my problem. Tech should have installed them during the initial visit, since this is a roof mount. They waived the $15 fee. How nice of them Installer will be here this afternoon. I'll bet it's the same guy.

Guess my neighbor and I have been lucky. We never needed the struts up to now. I wrote my signal strength down when I first installed it back in Sept. of 2008 after Hurricane Ike and I've checked it several times since then after the new 72.7 sat was launched and in service . My strength has either stayed the same as before or in some cases even stronger. Now if we have another hurricane come next summer/fall , I will definitely take the dish down again to avoid damage like I did before Ike. Not worth paying to replace it when I can just put in the house till the hurricane passes over.

Installer just left. Had a nice talk with him. Struts are not needed in my situation. Since the dish was mounted on the existing footing and mast that my wing 61.5 was on, struts would have basically put more holes in my roof. He showed me the 1000.4 mast. It's longer than a 500 mast, so that's why the the extra support is needed. So I trust the installers. If I ever lose the signal for some reason, I'll fall back to my OTA and get them back out here.

I've never seen a conversion kit for sale. I had a 500+ laying around because my HD locals used to be on 118, then I saw the documentation on the conversion that I posted earlier and decided to give it a try. The 1K.5 only provides slighty better signal strengths, but I figured that a little more is better. I guess it's kind of like, the volts are the same, but the amps are higher, if you can follow that logic.

+1...exactly! Just make sure that you change the skew to that of the 1000.4 settings from the instructions.

Update, Low signal issues have been fixed, The NEW Tech did a Complete reinstall, And Upgraded my dish from a 1000.4 to a 1000.5 custom eastern arc. My signals are much better, Still Not getting 70's on the 77 like some claim ,61.5 has two TP's that are 70,the 72.7 has 1 that is 70, Most are 40's up to 70 .
But no snow issues this morning, and dish is completely covered. So now I'm happy.

Yea, I just checked. Looks like I'm getting about 15-17 points lower than gearmonkey, consistently across all 77 transponders.

Haven't noticed any channels dropping, however, even after our heavy winds this weekend. Of course I may not be watching channels from that sat.
