Have DN and just got a HDTV, what do I need?
ADVERTS 1
I have had Dish for years and I am happy with it. I just got a HDTV and I want to know what I need and cost for getting Dish HD channels. I have looked at the Dish website, but I still need help.
I have a Dish 500 dish and 301 rec. I understand that I will need a new rec, do I need a new dish also?
Is it $6 a month for HD channels? I can get my locals in HD with rabbit ears, so I don't need those.
Thank you, David

HD pack is $20 a month. You'll get a $100 rebate if you sign up for it ($10 a month for ten months).
A Dish 500 is not enough to receive the HD channels since you need to point at 61.5 or 129. A Dish 1000.2 is needed or just another single dish.
If you already subscribe to SD locals then you'll automatically get the HD locals if they're available in your area.

For Satellite Dish, to get all the HD stuff, a standard install would either need a 2nd dish pointed to 61.5 (if you're near parts of east coast or if your Locals are on 61.5) or a 1000.2 so you can get 110/119/129 sats. If you're DIY, have other options.
And you'll need a new receiver - the Vip 622 if you want DVR.Dish Eastern Arc: 722/622/612 with AT250/HD + Wash DC Locals Sat & OTA via CM4228

I would call and go with the upgrade to a Dish DVR 622 and associated Dish, as long as you have not upgraded in a year, it should be pretty reasonable.
That will get you the HD tuner, subscribe to the HD pack, and if you subscribe to a movie pack, like, you will also get one of those in HD... Along with the added Dish or replacement dish.
