But from the fact that they had to REMOVE a couple of HD-PPV channels to put up slates for these two we can infer they didn't have room available, so if it IS contractual why the hell would they remove viable sources of revenue before they knew they could broadcast SciFi/USA-HD in their place?

Not that it makes a GREAT deal of difference (we're not getting the channels, regardless) but it is a curious situation.
I would question whether HD-PPV channels are "viable sources of revenue". Until I see proof otherwise, I would say there are very few people that order HD-PPV's. They may have removed them because it was costing more to have them up than they were generating in revenue. I've seen more people on this forum that scoff at paying the prices for the HD-PPV than I have seen that are willing to pay for them. I think I have only purchased one in the entire time they've been up.

So tired

I'm getting so tired of seeing the same ol crap about removing Voom channels. IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. Every time you state the same ol s**t just shows your own personal bias. Not any thing that is viable. E* has a contract to show the Voom channels and they are not going to drop them. One of the main reasons I have not seriously consider D* is a couple of the Voom channels. So please you guys stop beating a dead horse.

Considering the fact that my post in this thread is the 1st time I've said anything about replacing some of the Voom channels don't you think you might be exagerating a tad bit whatchel1. I would have nothing against Voom channels, if they would get some new films added, its the lack of them getting any new movies to show on the Voom channels like Monster that bothers me. I'm more than happy to keep em IF they would get some new films. Not nessisarily "Just released" films but at least some new titles besides constantly running Blind Dead and Hellraiser movies for the last yr. I truly don't think thats being too unreasonable.

It doesn't matter that it's the 1st time you have said. It is the fact that every time it is said by anyone it has been said all over these forums hundreds of times. It still is a specious statement. E* has a contract to play Voom. All channels repeat material. Some more than others. So I'm tired of the same stuff being repeated over & over. I want more HD myself but not at the expense of removing channels. Now I wouldn't mind them taking most of the HD PPV off but maybe I'm wrong for saying that. But those channels are constant repeats. They run the same show over & over for days & days.

You may be correct, although I understand they DID keep those two HD-PPVs on 129. It's still hard to believe they were generating NO revenue; i.e. it's hard to believe there was NO cost to DN to removing PPV channels. The USA/SciFi-HD slates, OTOH, absolutely DO generate zero revenue. Remember, at the time there was a great hue and cry about how those 110 slots were valuable and how DN would never put something in them unless they were going live almost immediately.

However, it IS an unusual situation and things do change. Who knows?

Well said nlk10010. It is an unusual situation.

I would like to add that the arguments against Voom are now moot as Dish is offering the new HD essentials packs, so that those people that "hate" Voom or are angry about Voom, can have an HD package that is cheaper and does not include Voom.

They could free up some space by getting rid of all those STUPID shop at home channels, I mean who actually buys crap from those places?

Like I said earlier I don't mind having the Voom channels but I do wish they would get some new material is all. If they did then I would have nothing to be upset about or mind paying for them. As things stand tho they are still running the same movies on Monster they showed when Voom was its own service and thats what annoys/concerns me.
