| | | Selecting TV1/2 for recording .... Would really love this 722 DVR feature ... DIsh 722 DVR is amazing! Enough said
Having said this, I really don't understand why there is no option to allow a user to select recordings on TV1 or TV2 tuner on a recording by recording basis. You have to go through this roundabout way to first setup a preferred TV1/TV2 for recording programs.
Very inconvenient.
Since we designate a default tuner, at least that selection should be available under "Options". How hard would that be to implement?
I don't even see this feature via sling or dish remote access. We should be allowed to change recording TV1 or TV2 either before or during a recording.
Anyone know of a workaround on how to go about doing this?

When the DVR is in Single mode, the tuner selection is irrelevant. When you enable Record Plus because you use the DVR in Dual mode, and select TV2, the DVR assumes that 4 out of 5 times, TV1 is going to be in use and TV2 won't. Again, most people who use DVRs eventually get to a point where they NEVER EVER EVER watch live TV again, so they (we) come back to a point where tuner selection is irrelevant.
Not to belittle your request; it's a very valid point. But it's not worth implementing.

Thanks Cowboy .... the DVR is not in single mode, we use the DVR to show HD in the family room, and SD in my study. We do watch a lot of live TV. Given these issues, this feature is important to us.

1. Using your DISH remote, press MENU. The Main Menu appears.
2. From the Main Menu, press 8 to select "Preferences."
3. From Preferences screen, press 6 to select "Record Plus". The Record Plus screen appears.

Pretty sure the OP has done this. I think he wants to do it on a per-recording basis, which Record Plus doesn't provide.

-TIA | I Agree, I have wanted that feature for a long time, it would be easy to implement. It could still default to whatever tuner you have set up through record+ or whatever. Just give you a check box for manual override also. Seems very simple.
One way around this is to turn record plus off, and then tell it to record from whatever room(tuner) you want it to record on.

-TIA | If you're sitting in front of the tv when a recording starts, and you want to send it to the other tv...stop the recording, press the record button on the remote, and select the other location for the recording to go to. Your show records on the other tv, and your free to change the channel to something else.
But seriously, why watch live tv? Unless it's sports or the news.....

A lot of seemingly sensible implementations to us "techy" types on this board would serve to confuse or even upset the vast majority of DVR users who want things as SIMPLE as possible with the least amount of "choices" or options to be displayed or made when operating the device. Yes, Dish could easily implement a lot of software requests, and they have done so, but the "ease of use" for the vast electronically challenged is weighed very heavily by Dish, and Dish won't rush to add more complexity--simply cool options and more control for the rest of us--unless they are pretty sure the masses can handle it, as well. Believe me, the DVR's are complicated enough as they are for the average subscriber, and my many family members who have Dish don't need another option to be presented--even if all they have to do is ignore it-- to confuse or confound them more, "What's this?" or just one more place to make an error.
How about we focus our energies on getting Dish to implement a "New" recordings feature that actually works for all the channels and all the programming. Right now there are far to many instances when the DVR will record old episodes or even the same episode aired later the same day, even if the timer is set to record "New" episodes only.

I agree with OP. I have wanted this feature ever since I got the 722. Let them have a 'simple' default mode for the masses, and an 'advanced' mode for those of us that want control.
