I have a Dish 522 and the 2nd tuner is going out. Dish will send another, but I will loose all my recordings. There is a USB port on the back, can I attach a external HD to recover my recordings or increase the HD space? Help!

The tech who came out and told me the 2nd tuner was bad said it would work, but after buying the external hd and trying to install it, I called him and he backed off.
