HUGE advantage for DIRECTV
ADVERTS 1
With tonight's launch of D11, the current HD leadership they have is most certain to continue for well over a year as I see it. In about 6 weeks they will have the means to light 1500 HD lils, and 150 HD nationals. DISH has much less capacity, and will have maybe 45 local HD markets lit when D11 turns on. DIRECTV already has about 80. Congratulations to DIRECTV on today's launch.

Well, actually, E* has more compasity. they are working on their eastern arch and western arch thing. Dish will be offering an All MPEG 4 system from 3 orbital locations. It's definatly a space race, but dont count dish out as they are far from down.

Except for the rumors here in the pub it would be nice to see exactly how E*'s going to be doing what. Please correct me if incorrect but from what I've seen the eastern and western arc things are basically two different systems with each system duplicating the other's programming. So while Dish has a lot of transponder licenese out there isn't this duplication of systems going to eat into a lot of that?

DISH needs to get birds in the air to do what is mentioned. They will get one - E11 this year. With the ILS problem, the other sat in that plan, Ciel2 won't go until 2009. DIRECTV will rule for quite a while.

So are you saying this would not be a bad time to switch from E* to D*???? I want the most HD now...not a year or so from now. Would you take the gamble and jump ship???

IF you want the most hd channels that are available today and in the future go with DIRECTV. Directv 11 went up yesterday and it will have the capacity for 150 hd channels and do upto 1500 local hd channels. Next year the next sat going up will allow the capacity to do over 200 hd national channels. DISH might catch up by then but either way it looks like DIRECTV will have more hd now and in the future. I still have DISH for the hd pack but I upgraded to hd with DIrectv last January and I will be commited to them for 24 months. It looks like it might take that long for DISH to catch up. So I am covered either way in regards to hd channels.

I'm still trying to figure out just what the hell "compacity" is.
