It is not meant to keep doing new trials to see if new code violates the patents of not. What if they do a new trial on the new code and lose again? Are they just going to say we changed the code again and this time we are sure it does not infringe?

The 622/722 issues is interesting. They use a different chip set, who knows for sure if they comply or not, but I bet TiVo will be working to get them cut off too ASAP if they think they are the same as the prior ones. But, you would think that since the 622s/722s were out before the trial even started, TiVo would have had the complaint amended at the start to include the 622/722 if they thought they were substantially the same. It is not like Echostar lost the trial and then slapped a new label on an old box and said it was new and compliant, TiVo had plenty of time to bring them to the court's attention.

I don't think a licensing agreement is necessary at this point, since the injunction only affects 721, 921, 942 and 1022 models that are currently in INVENTORY and are not active.

Nobody is getting shut off because of this and there are so few 721, 921, 942 and 1022 models in the field that the injunction is laughable.

Only issue I can see is if a customer has a 721 and has the extended warranty plan and the receiver goes bad, Dish more than likely will send you an upgraded receiver.

    If you have a 721 you will probably get a 625 or a 522, and if you have a 921, 942 and a 1022 you'll probably get a 622 or 722.

And plus Dish will be able to start makeing the extra $5 for the DVR once one of those 721 goes bad and they replace it with an upgraded receiver.

yea but what happens to my no PVR fee , and since I own the 721 I would assume I would own the replacement ? the No PVR fee is the reason I will never part with the 721 !

Color me funny but I have this aversion to accepting the interpretation of law by Dish Network. We all know how much of a bang up job they've done so far in that arena.

Sign up for DVR advantage, if you have Top 200 or Top 250 the DVR fee no longer applies since the pricing is the same! If you got Top 100 its only like $2 more! Im sure if you call and complain to customer service they do something for you to make up for the $2.

BTW, did anyone see that there where only 192,000 active 501, 508, 510, 721, 921, 942 and 1022 receivers in the field as of September 6th?

Again this whole Tivo lawsuit is laughable, and you know its going to be a cold day in hell before Charlie actually makes good on the judgement and pays Tivo. Just another perfect example that shows that DISH Network is ABOVE the law

If DISH has to turn off all their DVRs, they'll be better off to just buy Tivo and start tossing tivo boxes en masse into the ocean.

Sometimes people come here with outside agendas, looking at a members posting history, especially newer members not looking for help can tell you a lot.

So this means if I want to deactivate my 721 then I cannot resell it? That ain't right. I had better get a darn good replacement (522 or 625). I will still be hit with ANOTHER $6 DVR fee. What a rip. Dish only offers to give you $25 for your current receiver last time I checked and that is pathetic considering I paid over $500 for it.
