R.I.P. Dish Network Customer (06/1999 - 07/2009)
ADVERTS 1
I'm (sorta) sad to announce that Dish Network has lost yet another customer.
I originally signed up with DishNetwork just over ten years ago (June 1999), but now just cannot in good faith stay a subscriber with Cheap Charlie and his Jim De-Castrated minions.
Dish Network just doesn't give a CRAP about sport's fans...especially Major League Baseball fans like myself.
I used to be a MLB-EI subscriber....until Cheap Charlie Ergen made a corporate decision to not buy into the deal that MLB offered them several years ago. So...MLB-EI subscribers @ Dish Network were just screwed thanks to his corporate mishandling and overal cheapness.
I stayed with Dish Network at that time because I do feel that they have...or at least DID have at the time....better HD channel choices and a better HD-DVR. I will miss my VIP DVR...but I won't miss Dish Network and their corporate fools.
The last straw for me staying with Dish Network was in their utter failure to not show the MLB NETWORK...which can into existance as a channel on Jan. 1, 2009.
I've sent numerous emails to Cheap Charlie at ceo@wehatesportsfans.com or whatever his stupid email address is to request that Dish Network immediately add the MLB NETWORK, but to no avail.
I've also called Dish Network CSR's numerous times to request that MLB NETWORK be added to their line-up, but have to EXPLAIN IN FRIGGIN' DETAIL TO THESE IDIOTS EACH TIME THAT THE "MLB NETWORK" IS NOT MLB-EI.
Those CSR SOB's NEVER EVER know what I'm talking about when I mention the "MLB NETWORK"...probably because Cheap Charlie has no problem sending the CSR jobs to India and other places where simple ENGLISH is a SECOND or even THIRD language.
I'm sick of dealing with continual language barriers when dealing with CSR's from a supposed "American" company like Dish Network.
So...tomorrow I have an AM appointment scheduled with Direct TV to set me up with their service and HD-DVR. And I've already called to cancel my Dish Network account and am awaiting on the boxes from UPS to ship my DN equipment back to them in.
Dish Network really really really TRIED to get me to stay (I'm sure they HATE to lose customers like me who subscribed to their EVERYTHING pack), but the CSR annoyed me even more when I tried to explain that I am a BASEBALL fan who has been crapped on for several years by Dish Network and their ultimate refusal to not show the MLB NETWORK on their system drove me to their competitor.
Even the stupid-clueless CSR who is supposed to try to keep me as a Dish Network customer by offering me lots of things to stay did not have a CLUE what the MLB NETWORK is!
I won't be posting anything on the Dish Network forum anymore. If you want to find me, look for me in the Direct TV forums.
Direct TV: They don't take a steamin' crap on Baseball Fans like they "other guy" does!

If you really want baseball, then Direct will be your better choice. Remember, each provider has there strengths and weaknesses. There will probably some stuff you will miss about Dish as well.

I'm happy you are getting the one channel you like. Sorry it took you so long to realize that Dish has great basic sports channels, but doesn't spring for ultra-specialized channels when the price tag is too high.
I am happy I am not paying extra for sports fans to watch channels I couldn't care less about. If I had a choice I would love to lose ALL the sports channels INCLUDING the ESPN monolith which is inflating the monthly subscription!
See ya

Isn't MLB Network tied to Extra Inning carriage. Dish can't offer MLB Network if they wanted to since they don't carry Extra Inning. Which I agree, I am glad Dish doesn't carry the sports packages that regular customers have to help subsidize.

Everything you say is unfortunatly true. It looks like D* will be the better option for you, though I agree that the E* receivers are better. I'm currently making the same considerations to swithch because of the lack of new HD for Turbo customers, so others here feel your pain. It's a shame. E* has great potential, but the programming issues and unedgucated CSR's have frustrated me a few times as well.
