Is DirecTV going to be any better?
ADVERTS 1
I have been a Dish Network subscriber for exactly one year now, but they are starting to frustrate me lately, and want to know if there is a good solution or if DirecTV will be any better.
I initially signed up as a Turbo HD Silver customer and still am. When I signed up, I was told that my package was all of the HD channels of Classic Silver and none of the SD, and as HD channels were added to Classic Silver they would be added to my Turbo HD Silver. As we all know that was not the case. I was mostly ok with the situation since the channels were not really important to me. The the fee increase came with the promise of more channels. Again did not happen. This time I was a little bit perturbed, but still was happy with the programming I had and mostly ok with what I was paying.
Fast forward to yesterday. I signed up for the multi-sport package in order to receive Big Ten Network and NHL Network. Since the webpage for the multi-sport pack says that NBA TV and NHL Network are both available in HD with that package I assumed I would get those channels in HD. However, I do not, I only receive them in SD. Apparently, I have to add the Platinum HD pack to get it, but that is no longer offered. So, the only way to get those two channels in HD (though I don't care about NBA TV), is to change my plan to the Classic Silver package with HD. That would add $15 to my bill.
The most frustrating part is that the web site specifically lists NBA TV and NHL Network in HD for the mult-sports pack and that I actually do get the SD version. Is there a way to structure my plan so that it is close to what I am paying now? The Choice Extra package at DirecTV will have all the channels I want for about $10-15 cheaper. I do not want to leave Dish though since I really like the DVR and am happy with the programming I have, save for the NHL HD. Just tired of being screwed and lied to.
For reference I have:
Turbo HD Silver
Multi-Sports Package
1 HD DVR
1 HD receiver
Locals
~$70/month
Dish quoted me ~$85 for:
Classic Silver with HD
Multi-Sports package
Locals
same equipment
DirecTV would be $60 for the first 12 and $75 after for
same equipment
Choice Xtra

There was. Mainly, will DirecTV be any better than Dish. However, after talking to Dish again, they were able to resolve the issue by discounting the package for me. In the end I got the programming they promised for the price agreed to. I will say, they need to not advertise channels that not every package can get without a disclaimer, but other than that, I am mostly happy. Really, I think I needed to vent more than anything. Sorry if I wasted people's time.

It would be worse at D*, because E* has a new channel called the NFL RedZone channel, and it is the best thing ever!!!. I mean really, you can see stuff on it and everything

Seriously, glad you got a chance to vent.
