Why I'll remain with dish.
ADVERTS 1
I have dish. My mother has direct due to trees and can't get dish.
When she signed up, she got a hd receiver. Since configuring her vcr is to complicated, she's been talked into getting a dvr.
I Called direct cs to see if she could swap out her HDReceiver. Here is the conversations in a nutshell:
CSa: She could get a hddvr for $99 with a 2 year agreement. + $30 delivery +$7 DVR fee+free install. (would have to run a second line and switch)
She doesn't have hd service, but getting hd locals and would need a hddvr to continue getting the locals in hd.
Me: But my mom doesn't have to pay for the hd service, but can continue to receive her locals in hd?
csa: Yes.
Me:Ok. I have to call and run this by her and I will call back. Is their confirmation number I need to have?
CSa: No, I'll just place the notes on her account.
Called back within 10 minutes: (eventually went to the floor supervisor)
CSb: No HDDVR for $99. It's $199.
Me: But I made a point to mention the HDDVR. Check the recording.
CSc: No. Only standard is $99 HDDVR is $199.
Me: Gave a lecture on customer service. Explained that I was a Dish Network customer and I have been convinced to remain a Dish Network customer after this and I will do everything possible to get my mom switched over to Dish.
CS FLOOR SUPERVISOR: Sorry you feel that way. Good By.
You would think that once they heard I was with Dish, they would have wanted to win me over? Nah. In fact they started to get an attitude with me.
Sorry direct, Dish beats you by a long shot for customer service.

Maybe you misunderstood what the first CSR said? The HDDVR's from Directv have always been $199 with a 2 year contract. Most of us have paid that unless it is a new customer account then there are promos out there that can make it cheaper.
Dish Network charges for their receivers too. And in my experience Dish's customer service is the worst.
Why didn't you just call back and ask for the first CSR's operator number? You are right, I would get an attitude too if you were lecturing me about customer service.

What he said, as 14 year subscriber, I too paid $199.00 without threatening to go to (insert co. here)
The D* CSR's don't need to chase Dish subs, There's enough leaving on their own.
