One thing, with the new HD GUI sw Directv has, even the older HR series are a lot faster than they used to be, almost up to ViP quaility speed ...

I haven't seen the new HDGUI and won't until D* gets around to actually putting it out there for other than a very small segment of their subscriber base.
That said, I have all HR24s and I would say that on their best days they are every bit as fast and flexible as the Vip series, but at times they can get a bit sluggish, kind of acts like it is busy doing something. It isn't a big deal, and it sure isn't enough to make switching because of the hardware a real reason, imo.Lloyd
