HR-24 vs VIP series

Ok, those that have used both, give us your assessment of the two boxes. What do you like about each versus the other?

Proud Staff Memberif you compare the HD gui of the 922 to the HR24, dish wins there. also the vip series allows you to record two things on sat while watching another channel via ota. or you can be recording one ota, one sat and still be able to watch another channel live via sat on the vip. the HR24 when recording two things at once doesn't allow you to watch any other channel live. besides that i can see no other differences. the speed and power are finally evenly matched! after today i can say i no longer miss my vip 622. great job D! took you long enough!

What is HD gui and why is it important? I am looking at my options and am not a techie so bear with me!

Proud Staff Memberits the user interface in HD. for example the guide on the vip 922 is in HD.

Now compare the interactive features, APPs, UI for VOD, 3D, search features, sports score guides, ex. When you add all of these, the HR24 can do much much more Originally Posted by rey_1178

VIP 922 Still King..But Hr24 Comes Close
In short: The VIP 922 is best dvr out there. Its lightening fast. The Guide is slick and easy to read. Overall its best in field. Originally Posted by msmith198025

All previous models Ive had have been slow and lethargic. I hated using them.
The new machine has some great features I love. The apps! Too cool! Quick tune(my favorite) Direc seems to have added some nice features.
I give this unit high grades. Also guide moves fast. Unit is responsive.
Why the nod the VIP series? They still seem built better!

vip622 vs hr24
after a week im beginning to get the hang of the differences, and i must say the hr24 is winning me over
the smartsearch, sports scores, guide options, mrv, ect ect
i do miss recording 3 things at once, but well it more then makes up for it
