It's not just Dish, Direct lost G4 this morning.
ADVERTS 1
I read on another board that Direct viewers lost G4TV this morning to a dispute.
It's a common thing will all carriers.

Not so much lost as cast aside. I suspect that most carriers are going to drop G4TV for lack of appeal.

Yep...
But let's put things in perspective. One lonely very low rated SD only cable channel that few people even heard of, vs a group of channels, one of which was very popular and the others show exclusive local programming.
To be honest, I did not even have G4 in my guide and never even heard of the station until this dispute was made mention to me by Direct a few weeks ago

The difference so far between FX from dish and G4 from direct is 200 + pages. I don't see the outcry that there was with FX being lost on dish versus G4 being lost on D*. Just goes to show that G4's value isn't as much as FX. So Directv may be on to something. Also while spats do happen, with dish the spats seem to crash and burn, and tend to be very vocal. With directv, they seem to come to terms with the provider, unless directv chooses not to come to terms. The only thing good about G4 was Olivia Munn, but I can see her on the Daily Show. Aside from that, G4 didnt have much. Most people are saying good riddance.

Can't really blame DirecTV for wanting to use the channel space for something else. Comcast says that their offer was in line with what D* paid for it for the last three years, but I heard there's some bad blood between them and D*. The only thing I record on that network is X-Play and really I could watch the parts of that show I want to see online.

It makes me wonder what we will see in 10 years. What Channels will survive? I remember growing up thinking how cool it was going to be to have all these channels. Now It makes me sick thinking how much I pay for Satellite and how little of it I watch. I did miss the old version of this station for sure.

Maybe Directv can use the space to add another one of the HD channels they've promised but not delivered, or perhaps add another PPV HD channel. They're still about 30 HD channels short of DISH.
- 11-01-2010 04:34 PM #10I found an old OnSat from 1993 the other day in some junk. Anyway, it was from the C-Band days and looking through it there were maybe 75 channels or so listed if that many. I was thinking that we get two times that many channels now, but there was a lot more to watch (or at least that I wanted to watch) back then than now.
