ADVERTS 1
I can not for the life of me choose what i want. things i am in need of is a at least 1 dvr hd and 3 more boxes. i like sports but not a huge huge huge fan. i like saving money. HD is a must. not sure these factors mean anything: i live in Minnesota so snow and rain, do i want a protection plan? what other things should i ask myself/the forums?

The first and most important question IMHO is which provider has the channels I want to watch. Then cost would be my next concern. After that, which one has the equipment that best suits my needs. You could flip flop question number 2 and 3 if you want. All the other stuff is so minor as to not be important enough to worry about. That's how I see it. YMMV

well where i am at is that dish is 60bucks a month and directv is 65 but thats with service. so after 6 months of dish's free service its the same for both so see thats where i get stuck. been trying to choose for a week and i keep going back and forth with it. I can't even remember why i keep flip floping from one to the other. my head is spinning.

Go on eachs website and build your pkg to see your estimated costs. I switched from Dish to Direct because my monthly bill was way to high.

Satellite LOS was the big reason I went with DIRECTV over Dish Network.

DirecTV = Sports.
DISH = Everything else.

Directv= Americas #1 sat co. 18+ million subs. Sports. More full time hd. Higher quailty hd. Better vod selection. MRV. Full time 3D channels. 3D available on all hd revievers. Directv can be more expensive, but is not charge crazy.
Dish= Americas #2 sat co. 14+ million subs. Declinning subscribers. Higher equipment fees. Channel drops. Higher ppv rates. 3D available on vod only. 3D available on a few model hd recievers. Dish might be cheaper but, charges for changing programing, canelling protection plan, returning equipement when you cancel your subscription.Last edited by cave1376; 12-09-2010 at 10:15 PM.

DirecTV = More sports, less national HD. Drops channels it deems "unpopular," hasn't added new HD nationals in 7 months, costs more, crappy DVRs, worse customer service, looking into charging $20 for PPV
DISH = More national HD, less sports. Adds more HD national channels more often, more movie channels in HD, cheaper, better DVRs, better customer serviceLast edited by 3HaloODST; 12-10-2010 at 12:53 AM.

The possible $20 for ppv is for movies that are still in the theater just to be clear. It is not going up to $20 on the PPV that they now offer.
Also, the HR series, while not quite as good as the ViP series, is damn close with the new HR-24 model. It fixed most issues that many had with the previous line. Personally, that would not be a holding point for me in making the decision on which to go with.
Personally, I use D* more than E*. It gives me the channels I want, with great PQ, at a lower price than a comparable Dish setup would cost.www. sonicbabble.com The best non sat discussion on the net
