EchoStar lost bid to merge with DirecTV in 2002...
ADVERTS 1
acting nakedly in Murdock's interests, the FCC blocked satellite-TV provider
EchoStars's $27 billion acquisition of DirecTV in 2002 as being anti-competitive.
That cleared the way for News Corp.- which had originally been outbid- to buy control of DirecTV for a mere $6.6 billion.

...murdoch and everything he represents SUCKS... I remember it well. Suddenly the news channels on that 6 screen news preview thingie on DirecTV had fox news...channel 360... BEFORE CNN on 202. Top left, and fox news was now what you heard when tuning there, coincidence, I think not. They were grouped by channel number order before that. Cancelled nearly immediately, and went with Dish Network! I knew murdoch sure as hell didn't need -or would get- a single PENNY out of me!
