You could look at the numerous posts already on this subject. The most basic point is Directv for sports and somewhat better hd picture quality, Dish for basic hd channels and slightly better pricing for programming, but not for equipment.

I watch lots of sports on Dish. Dish receivers are better by a longshot in my opinion. But their receiver fees are outright gouging. If you don't need NFLST, don't live in NY and don't need more than 2 receivers, I would go with Dish.

This is important. Often times, the more receivers that you have, you will find D* to end up being less expensive than E*.

    depends on your needs
look at the channels they both offer and see what fits your needs
look at long term cost, after all credits are gone
    ive had both
i am on directv now as they have my locals, multiroom viewing,
and i have actually grown to prefer their equipment as it has more functions then dish

As one who just switched from E* to D*, I'd agree with most of the postings in this thread. I would also add, that I was pleasantly surprised that when I added the Direct Sports package, I picked up a number of channels with boxing that I didn't get with Dish an their multi-sports package. Like Sports New York and MSG/MSG+ both in HD.

The HR24, the latest of D*'s HDDVRs, is as quick for most functions as my 722k was and it has the benefit of a much better search. It does have some quirks in operation, but so does the Dish equipment. Both have strengths and weaknesses.

I did lose 2 channels in HD that I watch and enjoy. AMC and BBCA, but even though they are in SD, after making some adjustments in my TV after the switch, they aren't too bad. There are other channels that Dish has in HD that DirecTV doesn't, but I don't care about them.

I think there's more HD channels in Dish network as you seen the satellite tv comparison between dish network and direct tv.
