Additional Recievers - Dish vs Directv
ADVERTS 1
Can someone layout the costs of Dish vs Directv for the additional recievers fee beyond the first.
When I search the forums, I find conflicting in answers in regards to cost.
Personally, I have both Dish and Directv, One reciever each (SD-Dish) and (HD reg-Directv). If I was to consaldate (sp?) and go with just one provider and add a second reciever (SD or HD reg for MPEG locals), which provider in the long run would be cheaper?
I could be wrong, but Im assuming its a flat fee per additional reciever with one and the other its just a one additional charge for 2 or more, regardless, but again, I don't think that's right?
Thanks for answers.
Edit: Secondly, DVR's and/or HD, and Whole room DVR doesnt matter to me!Last edited by Bluemonick; 11-05-2011 at 05:20 PM. Reason: more info

In general, without giving exact fees because I am too lazy to look them up right now (
) Directv is cheaper the more boxes you add. Depends on exactly how you want it set up though. If you can go with one SD and one HD, then Dish may be the best bet as you can go with one box (with DVR).
In any case, going with only one, either way, will most surely be cheaper than what you are doing now.www. sonicbabble.com The best non sat discussion on the net

I only want two TV's setup, what you are saying is have a Dual Tuner ONE Receiver setup for the same Provider (Directv or Dish), currently I have two TV's (one tv with Dish, other Directv, Directvs reciever is HD and Dish is SD)
If I was to get a Dual Reciever (1 reciever total on account), would it be cheaper with Dish or Directv? (I havent investiaged Dual Recivers, but Im assuming you can watch two different programs on two TV's at same time with a dual reciever?)

With Dish, dual receivers can have one HDTV connected and one SDTV connected, each watching a different show. Personally I don't like that setup, but it is there. If you get something like the Vip612, it cannot do 2 independent TVs, but it can record 2 SAT channels and one OTA channel at the same time while showing a 4 pre-recorded event.
As to costs, with DirecTV all receiver past the first cost $6/each/month.
With Dish, it depends on which receiver.
For DVR w/Dual TV support it is $17/month - that's either HD or SD
For HDDVR non-dual TV (Vip612) it is $10/month
Or you could get a Vip211 at $7/month and add an external HD (one time $40 fee) and have a single SAT + Single OTA tuner DVR.Lloyd

Dish will probably be best for you in this situation since you will only need 1 receiver/DVR and will not have to pay a fee for it since you will only need one. With Direct you will need two receivers/DVRs to watch DIFFERENT programming on two TVs and the additional receiver/DVR will be an extra $6/month
Of course this also depends on your other programming needs and interest. If you are a sports fan, then you maybe disappointed with Dish and Direct maybe the better choice. For movies, both are good with Dish having the slight edge
