Systemic problem with "standby" mode on all receivers
ADVERTS 1
I have four Dish receivers (two 211s, a 722 and a 222), all of which are defaulting to "standby" mode even though I have deactivated standby on the preferences menu of all units. The problem was first noticed in February on one of the 211s. Dish tech support said it would be fixed by a s/w update, but it wasn't. They then replaced the receiver at my insistence, but that didn't do the trick either. This is a problem since I like to record some standard def programming on a Series 2 TiVo.
Meanwhile, I started having the same issues with the other three units and a separate 722 on another account at a different site. For the moment I'll resist conspiracy theories about Dish vs. TiVo, but it's awfully strange that all five receivers would suddenly develop the same illness across two accounts.
My latest attempt to get a solution out of Dish tech support was to go through online chat and be told to wait 48 hours and check back. Any clue as to what's up?

It may be the nightly download on the 722, not sure if the other two have this function.

My 722's do the same, but it's after the nightly downloads. Really does not matter to me.

The best way around this is to schedule a daily autotune timer for any channel for 30 minutes after the scheduled nightly update time. My receivers are set to tune to the Today Show every morning at 6am. this way my receiver's are on when I turn on the TV each day. I also used this technique for a customer who is using TIVO.

So far as I know all new receivers have a reset time, which cannot be disabled although you could change it more than once a day and never have it reset but you would be asking for trouble and no guide after a few day of that.

think about it, most customers afected by standby mode are users of TIVO. makes sense dish would make their equipment difficult to work with a tivo system. im surprised they dont write software that makes the IR blaster start sending out signals every half an hour to power the tivo box off. whoops, hope i just didnt give them an idea.
