Exclamation DP AR not working on 3GS

    ADVERTS
    Hi,

I was hoping that someone can help me out with this, I have the "DP AR" app installed on my iPhone 3GS, and am testing out the ability for it to use its internal antenna when there is no cellular service by pulling out the SIM card, but i keep getting the error "Error getting location from core location - Could not lock to your location, please enable location services or try again."

I have checked that the location services option under Settings > General is enabled, but i still can't get anything. Was i wrong when I understood that the app would be able to use the internal compass when no cellular service tower triangulation is available?

I have checked the "Horizontal Ref Mode" in the settings of this app, and it is set to "Internal Compass".

    Thanks for your quick reply,
    Adnan.

    Hi Adnan,

Use the Google Maps app to get the GPS signal first. Wait till the blue dot sends out pulsating waves - that's when it's receiving GPS signals. Then switch quickly back to the DP AR app.

That's it, I wasn't waiting till the PULSATING blue circles in google maps app, I saw the static blue circle and was switching. Thanks for this great app, and a quick reply to my OP.

This will make things much easier!

The Google Maps app is a native app, comes with every iPhone and can be found on the main screen where the apps are listed.

Found it but the blue dot never pulses. I have WiFi connection, and my house is shown but no luck with the DishPointer app. I have no Simm. Any thing else I need to know?

You need to have GPS enabled and you need to wait about 5 minutes for the blue dot to send out pulsating waves. That's when it starts receiving GPS signals. And you need to be outside with a clear line of sight to the satellites, i.e towards the South, otherwise it won't receive any GPS signals.

GPS enabled? I thought it was always enabled for the 3GS phones. Anyway, finally got the blue dot to pulse and then exiited that program, opened the DP AR program, hit the camera view and still got the error. Any other ideas?

    Got it!

But... I am looking at the positions and the sats 110 & 119 look way too high to be correct. I am in Hawaii and they should be lower on the horizon. It almost looks as though they are at a 45 degree angle and too far to the East. Hmmm.

But at least it is working...

The correct elevation is 38.2 degrees and the true azimuth 111 degrees (almost 70 degrees to the east). So, it all seems right.

Don't forget that most dishes are off-set dishes, i.e. they point about 20-25 degrees lower than the direct path to the satellite.
