Angry Can not use AR Pro

    ADVERTS 1
I purchased AR Pro via Iphone app. However I can not understand how to use the app. I see only one screen that shows:

    1. Camera - AR view
    Settings:

    Satellite List
    Horizontal Reference Mode.

I can not under stand anything. The manual help is minimal. Forum has not provided any clue.

Pl help specifically how to set the manual reference and also point to any writeup that explains the app in more detail. I feel frustrated after spending $ 23.

    Cheers

    1. Open Satellite List and touch select the satellite(s) you wish to locate. Press Done to exit.
    2. Open Horizontal Reference Mode and select the aiming mode (reference) you wish to use. Press Done to exit. (I own a iPhone GS model, so selected Internal compass).
    3. Open Camera - AR View and aim the camera towards the sky to see an overlay of your selected satellites over the camera image. Press Done to exit.

    Brain,

    Thanks for reply.

I also have iphone with 3G

My iissue is that when I open the AR pro application and try to set Horizontal reference mode, I see the following options:

    1. manual Compass
    2. manual satellite.

I am unable to understand this. You seem to have selected Internal compass in your iphone. However I do not see the option under horizontal ref mode.

However I did set the "Location services" to ON in the general setting of my Iphone.

Presently I have set the Horizontal refence mode to Manula Satellite and set to 164E.

And on puuting on to Camera - AR view I do see a red line with the satellite position , when I keep my phone vertical. However the satellite position remains on the screen even if I turn the phone around i.e 360 deg. And obviously I can not determine the exact location of the satellite 164E to align my dish.

Another question on # 3 in your post above...what is supposed to happen when "Press Done and exit"

    Cheers

Your phone is not the GS model, so it does not have an internal compass. You will have to orient your phone using an external compass. Without the phone having a built-in compass, the app is limited to providing a good reference, but certainly clumsy!

In the current mode, the app is showing the relationship of other satellites to a known target satellite. Without a built in compass, you will need to turn on the manual compass option and orient the phone to the heading provided with the external compass then target the desired satellite.

    Thanks Brian.

With the 3G, the app acts like an inclinometer but with the advantage that it also displays the satellite positions - but you do need to tell the app in which direction you are holding the phone.

Ok, you are based in Melbourne Australia and you would like to aim at, say, Optus D1 at 160.0 East.

If you'd like to use the manual compass option, you need a compass, a real one, preferably one which is corrected for magnetic deviation at your location. If it's not corrected, you would need to add 11.7 degrees for each reading.

    1. Pull out compass.
    2. Face roughly North.
    3. Compass reads, say, 10 degrees (you are facing slightly to the East of North).
    4. Compass is uncorrected version, so add 11.7, giving you 21.7 degrees true bearing.
    5. Keep facing the same direction and pull out iPhone
    6. Start DishPointer app
    7. Go to horizontal ref mode
    8. Choose manual compass mode
    9. Enter 21.7 degrees
    10. Switch to AR Camera View
    11. Lift the phone up (keep facing the same direction). Now you see the satellite arc and 160E as a dot on the screen.
    12. If the dot is on the sky, you are good to go and you can aim the dish in that direction. If it is on a building, tree etc.. you need to find another position for the dish as there is no line of sight to the satellite.

Note, because you are in Australia you will need to face North. People in the States or Europe would need to face South. The more you face the exact direction of the satellite the better it is (satellite dot will appear dead on screen center) but since the screen covers roughly 30 degrees of arc (depending on location) you can position yourself roughly in the direction of the satellite (This is for using the app, not for setting up the dish - the dish needs to face exactly the satellite).
