Things I would tell a friend to get them interested in FTA:
It's free - no subscription fees.
You can see news from a non-american perspective (Al Jazeera English, Russia today)
Quite a few decent Christian channels. (JCTV)
    Sports feeds.

What got you interested to purchase your first Free to Air satellite system?

I first found a list of available channels on the web and found a few that neither Dish or Direct had in there lineup... Plus I could not beet the price. Now that money is tight, I have been toying with the idea of going completely free-to-air, and this is just the setup that would push me to that choice! Great Offer and thanks for supporting such an amazing forum with a great community!

If a friend asked me about FTA, the first thing I would tell them is to visit this site and read read read..
then I'd say "get some beer and we'll get you setup to do it!" ;-)

WOW this is one amazing contest!

I would tell a friend or coworker that with FTA he or she could be receiving hundreds of channels without any subscription fees. This would be of great benefit, especially in the current economy with a lot of people out of work. I would also tell them about all the many news and sports feeds available that most CATV or DBS subscribers don't get to see.

I got interested in FTA because I owned several BUD's back in the 80's and I remembered what a joy it was to be able to receive satellite TV.

Thanks again for offering such a wonderful contest.

Wow nice promotion. I got interested in FTA because of all the money I was giving out to Dishnetwork. I wasnt watching most of the channels anyway. I ran across a FTA forum on the internet and the rest is history.

My latest spew I tell people includes a mention of Iceberg's "Pornstar" adventure! It is a real attention getter! Then I follow with what type of programming is actually up there without going into the specifics on channels. A lot of people still think it is illegal! And a lot of people also think that a satellite dish carries only smut!

The way I got into FTA was looking at the Skyvision catalogs my dad received for years but he never dealt with them. I would take them home look at them a little and save them. A few years ago I started going through a pile of them and started to read them about these FTA channels. Then a Google search led me to this site!

"What would you tell a friend or co-worker to interest them in owning a free to air satellite system?"
In the past I have spoke about the channels not available elsewhere for free. I have set up a system for my Dad for RTV.

"What got you interested to purchase a free to air system?"
That's easy, I saw the receivers in a Skyvision catalog and was curious what else was up there.

Thanks to Brian and Robby for the great contest.

Like a lot of others on here, I got interested in FTA first from this forum, and them by the continued price hikes of Satellite tv.

WHY DID I BUY MY FIRST SYSTEM???
I got interested in FTA when we were moving to this area. I heard about Glorystar from Paul Crouch, I was already listening to TBN on shortwave. We chose this location, partly because of the southern view of the sky!
I wanted TBN and Daystar but I got the TBN MUX , daystar, Cornerstone, Word and now Riverbroadcasting and much more.

What do I tell others to get them started?
Twenty-four hours a day of Christian television and more. You can catch Joyce Meyer and Joel Ostein many time a week on various channels. AND NO monthly fees. I will help them set it up. OH, and do not forget Jesse ! (Duplantis, that is! )
Home base is 20 acres near N45.85 W120.58. Items in red wiped out by wind storm.
Lots of room for Ham Antennas HF, 2M and .75M and Satellite Dishes
    Mercury II , -Fortec Star 5400-NA; Coolsat 6000; GeoSat DVR1100c ; 10 C-Band analog receivers - untested.
KU Band: Five Primestar 75E's , One carried mobile in motor home and one for recording G19, 1M Primestar for G19! GEOsat Pro 39" set up at 98072- but coming home shortly
0ne 85E to set up & a 1.2M to rebuild and test then use if I can.
C-Band: Winegard 10 perf on a pole and (1 of) 2-10 ft, (1 of) 2~ 7ft mesh and 2- 6th mesh Winegards, waiting for concrete foundation
