How Do I Upgrade OpenBox Firmware
ADVERTS 1
I have done the dump in past of my channel data, moved it into ALI editor, then back to the OpenBox successfully. But what about a complete firmware upgrade. Can you hang on to your channels. And what about the "factory data" vs. "user data". I get confused at this point. Any advice or is there a how to posted somewhere?

Pixl, Well I can answer part 2 of your question I think. In the editor it asks for a choice of "user" or "default" I always check user or I believe you lose your info...changes etc...
To be honest with you when it comes to the firmware in mine if it works I don't touch...call me chicken if ya want but when I first gone mine a year ago I lost everything since I didn't back it up to my usb. I only made that mistake once lol. As far as perhaps saving just the channels I've never tried. I know I've noticed when you see the .abs file in the receiver it shows a couple of other files....never tried it myself though. Hopefully someone else has an idea or two...blind

If you save your satellite/channel list, you can re-load it after a firmware upgrade.
After you re-load it, you have to reboot the box before it'll be recognized.
Also, you need to re-enter your coordinates if you're using USALS, they never get saved.Dish 1000.4 Eastern Arc dish, ViP 622 with broken HDMI port
