SatelliteGuys Offline Tonight
Due to a hard drive failure there will be a server outage tonight so that we can replace the failed drive. SatelliteGuys will be unavailable as of 7PM ET – 4PM PT and will be offline for approximately 2 hours as we do a backup and install the new hard drive.
Thank you for your understanding!

One word:

RAID.

Or does the server have redundant drives. but you don't want to do a backup on a running system?

Or what? Inquiring minds want to know.

We are on a RAID 10 system, one of the drives is acting flakey (its working but is throwing error codes)

While we are on a raid setup, our raid setup is not hot swapable which means killing the power to the server.

When the server goes down at 7pm I will be doing a full backup of the databases (since its the database server that the issue is on)

After that the drive will be replaced. Then once we verify everything is working I will flip the switch back on to serve the site to the world again.
