DirecTV continues to do well financially. They obviously have no intention of passing that onto the customers by means of new channel additions. After moving and losing all 26 HBO/MAX channels in HD, as well as all available Showtimes and Starz channels, I am realizing more and more that DirecTV doesn't give a hoot about the non-sports fanatic subscribers.

I had FIOS with the movie package and DirecTV for just about everything else. If it wasn't on a premium channel and in HD, I'd always record to the nicer DirecTV DVR with its higher capacity. But I was forced to revert back to "just" DirecTV for a while and let me tell you, they are brutal when it comes to movie channels.

Jan 15 (when I can get FIOS in this new house) couldn't come soon enough. I'll be lowering my package again with DirecTV and getting everything premium with FIOS. When my 2 years of D* are up, I will be ditching it and probably getting a few more DVRs with FIOS or go Tivo.

It isn't even cool anymore. They think they can get away with this and obviously they can, since their subscriber base is growing and so are profits. Never mind the promise of 11-13 HBO/MAX channels in HD in a June 2007 press release for Dec 2007. That never happened and probably never will.

I don't want to hear that they have no more capacity. They could certainly eliminate SOME of the HD PPV channels.

I think many people will bail when they get to the end of their contract. Obviously not the sports fanatics, but the average guy or gal. In summer of 2007, DirecTV looked like the way to go for HD. They added all those channels and many of us thought it would continue. Now they are raking in the profits and falling behind Dish, as well as many cable providers and FIOS. People will wake up and see that their local Comcast or Time Warner has way more channels in the near future, as far as HD and make a no-brainer decision to ditch D* when their contracts are up.

Unless of course you are a Sunday Ticket subscriber, and there are a lot more people upset about the lack of new channel adds than there are subscribers to ST (I mean real subscribers, not the ones put in a promo like me who never watch ST and only watch my local 0-6 team's games.)

DirecTV is in for a seriously rude awakening in the next six months to a year.
