    hope this helps

Replacing the C10 and C24 capacitors on the power supply does work. My 8000 started refusing to come back on after switching the power switch on the back (sometimes it would eventually but it took 10 minutes), and also when you saved settings or edited the channels the screen would flicker. I replaced both of the above capcitors with 1000 uf 16v caps and now the 8000 works like new.

they ar located in a 5V section, so 10V caps will work fine.. What is important for longer life is the temperature rating of the cap. The Factory cap is rated at 105 degrees-not good enough.(Screw up when extra hardware is added that heats up the box)
Look for a 135+ degree cap, and it will most likely last longer than the box.

    CAPS and Scanning

Lately, when I blind scan or scanning the a satellite my receiver will lock up and have to be rebooted.

I'm interested by your information about the Capacitors posted above. Could replacing these two capacitors help my issue?

BTW, I updated my firmware to the latest official - - - version 2.57 and that did not help the problem.

I took some pictures of the CAPS - - - they say on the side

You'll be better off by saving your Channel file to Flash and doing system restore, then reloading the channel file from Flash, if erased (try Blindscan if it works first). You may need to do a system cleanup from old files if that doesn't helps, using Cleanup FW and procedure posted elsewhere. If you want to mod your receiver, there is a SV8000HD Mods thread on this forum.

    Corruption?

So you are saying something has gone corrupt and I would be better off to start clean after backing up all my channels.

You don't think the two things are related - - - correct?

Correct. Its a standard procedure - start from restoring default settings and FW. One doesn't rush to crash his PC when it hangs - there are diagnostic procedures in place for everything technical. This is not related to SW Reviews thread anyway.

The two main issues I had when the capacitors needed to be replaced were:

Very slow or no boot up
    Screen flickering when saving changes

If your SV is just hanging up more than likely it is a software issue as Zamar said. I would try factory reset first.

I agree, it's not a power supply issue. It's a corrupted channel bin. Flush out the box. If you saved the corrupted channel bin, I would not use it.

    You guys were right

    - Did a Factory Reset and setup everything from scratch - - - No more lockups!

Once I get everything like I want it I will save a good bin file for my channels.

Replaced the CAP's in my SV-HD8000 today

My SV-HD8000 finally would not boot up and I decided to replace the C10 and C24 capacitors.

    Bought the CAP's from
DigiKey Corp. | Electronic Components Distributor | United States Home Page

    I got part number P13119-ND

CAP 1000uf 16V ELECT EB RADIAL

My brother did all the soldering as I'm terrible at it. Just make sure you get the positive and negative correct when you replace the CAP's.

Here is one picture with the old short CAP on top of the heat sink and the new longer CAP already soldered into place.

The result was good and the receiver booted right up after the replacement of the two Capacitors.
